WHAT'S HAPPENING AT UNITED WAY OF MIDLAND COUNTY

Final Report Invite

Greetings!
Imagine growing up as a nomadic, lonely kid with your parents fighting and struggling to make ends meet.  In the midst of all this misery, you have a dream to escape and make something of your life; perhaps becoming a baseball player...  A Major League Baseball player!

United Way is pleased to announce that our 2010 Kick-off will feature Jim "The Rookie" Morris.  Jim's message of following your dreams and keeping your promises was the inspiration behind the Walt Disney blockbuster film, "The Rookie," starring Dennis Quaid.

We are thrilled to partner with the Loons to feature the movie "The Rookie" on the jumbotron at Dow Diamond on August 26th at 6:30 p.m.  Join us for fun family activities presented by our partner agencies starting at 5:00 p.m.

See the movie, then hear Jim Morris' story in person at our Kick-off on September 17th at 7:45 a.m. at the Midland Center for the Arts.  Tickets will go on sale in August.

Best regards,

Ann T. Fillmore, Executive Director

 2010 UNITED WAY
 CAMPAIGN CABINET

Campaign Cabinet 2010

What is the Campaign Cabinet?
Campaign Cabinet volunteers provide leadership for United Way's Community Campaign.

What is their role?
Campaign Cabinet members are responsible for leading a United Way campaign division.  They develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive campaign plan, set goals and cultivate new relationships.  They are the focal point of a team of volunteers who serve as United Way ambassadors to the business community.

What are the benefits?
Serving as a Campaign Cabinet leader is very rewarding, both personally and professionally.  We combine excellent leadership opportunities with the personal satisfaction that comes from reaching out a hand to help others.

It's also an opportunity to network with other businesses in the community and provide your organization with enhanced visibility.  Would you like to be part of the 2011 Campaign Cabinet? Contact mwilkins@unitedwaymidland.org.

Thank you 2010 Campaign Cabinet!
We are grateful to the caring community leaders who are committed to ensuring a successful United Way campaign.  It is through people like you, that real and lasting change is taking place.  Thank you!

ARNOLD CENTER EXPANSION LAUNCH OF A NEW ERA

Arnold Center Groundbreaking 2010

The Arnold Center broke ground on its new expansion in May.  After many years of careful planning and collaborating with various community organizations, Three Rivers Construction is building the 14,000 square foot addition. It is hoped that the project will be completed by Spring of 2011, and optimistic President Charlie Markey says," We hope to be in by the first of the year."

The ground breaking ceremony marks the launch of a new era for the Arnold Center. The two biggest improvements to the facility are increased size to the production area and a new cafeteria. Everyone is excited about the extra space on the production floor, and is looking forward to seeing the new layout. The growing number of Arnold Center customers out-grew the small cafeteria, and several lunch periods became necessary. Now customers can look forward to eating with their friends, regardless of their work schedule.  Additionally, the expansion will allow for more office space for Case Managers and Accounting personnel, as well as a new classroom which will also double as a board room.

Among the participants in the ground breaking ceremony were various members of The Dow Chemical Foundation, the Midland Area Community Foundation, the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation, the Doan Foundation, the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation, and the Strosacker Foundation. Others who participated were Mayor Maureen Donker, Arnold Center Board Members Alice Strack and Bill Gaunt, former Arnold Center President Mike Shea, and long time Arnold Center customer Harold Hutchins.

Chris Rosselit...Never Gives Up on Kids

Conflict resolution. Communication. Confidence. Teamwork. These are just a few of the skills participants in Midland Community Center's Teen Adventure Program attain thanks to the dedication of Program Leader, Chris Rosselit. Chris teaches Juevenile Care Center students life skills through fun, engaging activities like the climbing wall.  Teens play and work together, and they grow in the process.  Program graduates have the confidence to try things they may never have considered like leadership programs and giving back to the community by volunteering.

"Chris Rosselit has truly made an impact on this community by never giving up on these kids and always knowing and seeing the good in everyone," praised Alison Ginter of the Midland Community Center.
