WHAT'S HAPPENING AT UNITED WAY OF MIDLAND COUNTY

First Call For Help 835-2211

Dear  ,

We are pleased to announce that our 2009 United Way Community Kick-off will feature the nationally acclaimed speaker Christopher Gardner, sharing his message of hope with Midland County. The author of the autobiography, "The Pursuit of Happyness", Chris was the inspiration for the award-winning movie starring Will Smith.

The kick-off event will be held on September 18th at 7:45 a.m. at the Midland Center for the Arts. Ticket prices are $15 per person and are available at the Midland Center for the Arts box office, by calling (989) 631-8250 or visiting www.mcfta.org

Few stories are as moving as Chris'. Beginning with a childhood marked by poverty, domestic violence, alcoholism, sexual abuse and family illiteracy, Chris wrote his first book to shed light on these issues and demonstrate that circumstances do not have to define you. His message shares the importance of coming together and the power of hope.

Many people came into Chris' life to change it for the better. There are people in our community who make a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors every day. Join us as we celebrate the great impacts that are taking place right here in Midland County.

Best regards,

Ann T. Fillmore

Loaned Executive Class of 2009

 2009 Loaned Executive Program

What is a Loaned Executive?
A Loaned Executive is a community volunteer who is "loaned" on a part-time basis by their employer to work on the United Way community campaign.

What is their role?
Loaned Executives serve as United Way ambassadors to the business community by implementing campaigns, making presentations and serving as the primary point of contact for their assigned businesses.

What are the benefits?
Serving in the Loaned Executive program is very rewarding, both personally and professionally.  We combine excellent leadership training with opportunities for personal and professional growth.  More importantly, is the satisfaction that comes from reaching out a hand to help others.

It's also an opportunity to network with other businesses in the community and provide your organization with enhanced visibility.

Thank you 2009 Loaned Executives!
We are grateful to the twenty-three caring community members who completed Loaned Executive training and are committed to ensuring a successful campaign.  It is through community volunteers like you, that real and lasting change is taking place.  Thank you!

Making a Difference in our Community

Target Day of Caring
Target team members share their time, talent and resources to make a difference in our community.  Erin Jarema, Target Senior Team Leader, loves being a part of the high energy United Way campaign and is proud of their 100% employee participation.  Target focuses their energy on a week-long event featuring a bake-off and a contest that concludes with a favorite manager getting a pie in the face.

Target provides year-round support for United Way with employee auctions and volunteering to help our neighbors in need.  Target team members participated in the Spring Day of Caring, shared their love of reading with local children and empowered the community with a safety awareness campaign.

We are grateful to our friends at Target who don't just wear the shirt.  They LIVE IT!
