Oceans Beyond Piracy to Keynote Wednesday's Lunch at AOS-USA Annual Meeting

Oceans Beyond Piracy (OBP) has accepted AOS-USA's invitation to be part of our 2012 annual meeting.

OBP is a project of the One Earth Future Foundation, a privately funded and independent non-profit organization located in Colorado, USA, and was launched in 2010 with the intent to develop a response to maritime piracy through:

OBP believes that the answers to the piracy problem should come from within the community of stakeholders. We work with an extensive - and growing - number of experts to find a solution to piracy. Through meetings and workshops we host, our research and analysis, and our development and encouragement of new cross-sector partnerships, we support the international community in its efforts to bring an end to contemporary maritime piracy.

Representing OBP will be Kaija Hurlburt. Kaija is OBP's project manager. Prior to joining OEF, Kaija worked at World Resources Institute (WRI), a DC-based environmental policy research institution, where she focused on the social and environmental impact of energy investments to local communities and promoting international funding for climate change projects in developing countries.

Kaija received her MA from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Bologna, Italy and Washington, DC where she concentrated in international environmental policy and economics. Prior to graduate school, Kaija spent two years in Albania with the Peace Corps.

Kaija will touch on the mission of Oceans Beyond Piracy, their recent Washington Declaration, and their two research initiatives:

  1. The Human Cost of Somali Piracy 2010
  2. The Economic Cost  of Somali Piracy 2011

Important Constitution and By-Law Changes to Be Considered at Annual Meeting

Because of the desire of the USCCB to realign its relationship with AOS-USA, we have been requested to amend our constitution and by-laws to reflect the new relationship. At on the first day of our annual meeting, we will be considering these amendments, and vote on their adoption.

Please review these proposed changes so that this can be expedited, and not overly tax our very full meeting schedule.
