| What's Your Holiday Gift? |
|
Choosing the right gift is always a challenge. Not knowing which sizes, colors, styles, brands are right, kills the whole buying process for me. I never know those things (just ask Heather).
What if you could give a gift that would:
· Reduce the risk of dying prematurely from heart disease.
· Reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
· Reduce the risk of developing high blood pressure.
· Reduce blood pressure in people who already have high blood pressure.
· Reduce the risk of developing colon cancer.
· Helps control weight.
· Helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints.
· Helps older adults become stronger and better able to move about without falling.
· Decrease Stress
· Reduce Depression
· Decrease Anxiety
· Allow better focus in those with Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder
· Improve attention, academics, and potential
What if that gift could also improve or delay effects of:
· Dementia
· Alzheimer's
· Parkinson's
· Stroke
and might prevent:
· Memory Loss
· Cognitive decline
· Menopause symptoms
Wouldn't that be a cool gift? These are all things that can be achieved with a well structured fitness program. Give the gift of a health club membership or Personal Training to friends, family, or yourself. Saco Sport & Fitness is now selling gift certificates. See a staff member for details.
I know this sounds like a blatant advertisement. It is, of course, but not necessarily for Saco Sport & Fitness. It's an advertisement for sharing the benefits of getting or staying fit. More and more benefits are discovered every day. How could you not want to make the quality of life better for loved ones?

GIFT CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE! Make Christmas shopping easy! Give the gift of health. How about a Membership for those not yet active, or maybe a Personal Training package for someone who would benefit from a little extra help and motivation. See the Service Desk or a Program Coordinator to pick up your Gift Certificate. |

| Exercise Tips |
Making Exercises Up
There are not a set number of exercises in the world. Arnold's Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding is missing a few million of them. Exercises are movements that are made difficult through some means of resistance. You could use bodyweight, elastic tubing or bands, free weights, machines, water resistance, etc.
The movements are decided by an action or activity you would like to get better at. Say you wanted to be able to pick your toddler over your head (we Dads like to do that) you could start by holding a weight from about the height of your child, pull the weight up to your chest, then press it overhead and voila! You have created the toddler lift.
The more specific the movement is to your actual goal, the more it will help you in real life.
So exercises don't need to come out of a catalog. There are an infinite number, just as there are an infinite number of movements. You just need to be clear about what your goal of each exercise is.

We now have a couple of Facebook Groups
Saco Sport & Fitness Weight Loss Support Group
It's always difficult to host a weight Loss support that can accommodate the schedules of all of those that need the support. Where and when do you hold the meetings? This is an online support group that promotes member interaction about the issues that are making weight loss difficult, strategies that have worked for you, and to know that you are not alone in the challenge of losing weight.
Saco Sport & Fitness Book Club that you can join. You do have to sign up for Facebook (I'd be happy to help you with that.) Please join in and share your book favorites with others.
What was your favorite book that you read in 2009?
