| Functional Fitness |
What Are You Training For?
One of the benefits of working with a Personal Trainer is that they will sit down with you and help you to define your needs. You may want to be in better shape. Well... in better shape for what? The more specific the goal, the more specific the training program, and the faster and better your results.
For example: you want to be in better shape to sail in the summer. You, or your Personal Trainer, must first do a needs analysis. What is your general health and fitness condition? Then, more specific to the activity, what are the most difficult physical tasks when sailing? What are the most common injuries when sailing? What other challenges come into play? Once those questions are answered, a program can be designed to strengthen you for those tasks. The closer the exercise demands are to the actual activities', the more focused the benefits are.
Functional training, while a catch phrase in the fitness world these days, does not simply mean training with BOSU, stability balls, medicine balls, tubing, etc. It may involve them, but functional training means that your training is created to directly improve those activities stated in your goals.
So get specific about what you want to achieve and make sure that your fitness program reflects those goals.

| Swine Flu Precautions |
With all the media attention on Virus H1N1, We thought this was a great time to remind all our members how to prevent the spread of any germs in the club.
The CDC recommends: There are everyday actions people can take to stay healthy.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Additionally we would like to suggest:
Wash hands, or use hand sanitizer (provided throughout the club) entering and leaving the club
Wipe down equipment after use with spray disinfectant.
