2009 Winter Games
February 6 - 7
On Tap: Alpine and Nordic skiing, Snowshoeing and Floor hockey.
Winter Games is one of three annual State Games and one of 3,872 competitions held this year throughout New York. All events are free and open to the public.
Over 900 athletes and coaches from across the state will join in the Winter Games, featuring Floor Hockey Team & Skills at the Fair & Expo Center, Nordic Skiing and Snowshoeing at Bristol Mountain Summit Nordic Center and Alpine Skiing at Bristol Mountain Winter Resort.
Opening Ceremonies: Friday, February 6 at 8 PM at ESL Sports Centre, featuring the Parade of Athletes, entertainment and the lighting of the Special Olympics Cauldron.
Athletic Competition: Saturday, February 7, beginning at 9 AM in four Olympic-style sports.
Special Olympics New York, which does not charge athletes to participate, provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for more than 46,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

9th Annual Rochester Polar Plunge
Sunday, February 8 The Largest Special Olympics Fundraising Event in the Genesee Region is taking place.
A Polar Plunge is a chance to plunge into the winter waters off Charlotte Beach to show support and raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics New York.
Plungers are asked to raise a minimum of $60 to take the plunge and receive an official plunge sweatshirt. Students can raise a minimum of $25. Plunge Teams who pre-register are also eligible to win prizes. The event is free for spectators.
Plungers are able to set up their very own Personal Plunge Page to fundraise online and reach out to all of their contacts with a click of the mouse.
Statewide sponsors are NYSUT; "A Union of Professionals", Law Enforcement Torch Run, New York State Correctional Officers Police Benevolent Association; New York Lottery and CSEA, STI, Hot Shots, with Media Sponsor WBEE / WPYX Radio.

Global Law Enforcement Torch Run Visited NYC!
Presented by DHL, hundreds of Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) members all across the Northeast participated in the ceremonial run through the streets of downtown Manhattan on January 15, 2009!
