Binghamton Mets Partner with Special Olympics New York to Welcome Families and Athletes of the 2008 State Summer Games Binghamton Mets
bannerGovernor David Paterson Named Honorary Chair of Special Olympics New York

A Message from Neal J Johnson,
President & CEO of Special Olympics New York

Since its beginning in 1970, Special Olympics New York was given a credibility boost when Governor Nelson Rockefeller agreed to serve as Honorary Chair for our organization. Since that time, Governors Hugh Carey, Mario Cuomo and George Pataki have graced our letterhead, opened our Games and lent their support at fundraisers and competitions. These leaders have seen the value that the mission of Special Olympics provides to some of their most vulnerable constituents; those with intellectual disabilities.

We are most proud that Governor David Paterson has continued this tradition and has agreed to serve as Honorary Chair for Special Olympics New York. Governor Paterson, of all the Governors, knows first hand that it is not "disabilities" that frame our lives, but "abilities." We are an organization that provides opportunities for our 46,106 athletes to show off their abilities and what better person to lead them, but the one who has risen above multiple challenges and, through his sheer determination, is now the leader of this great state.

New York Law Enforcement Torch Run
Bigger, Better, STRONGER !

Two thousand and eight has been a busy year for the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) initiative in New York State. With a goal to double awareness and raise a $1million the program is constantly expanding and recruiting. The LETR committee from Buffalo to Long Island and Plattsburgh down to Binghamton have been busy mapping out Torch Runs and organizing routes to successfully escort the Torch to the State Summer Games. While taking this tour the Torch has passed through thousands of Law Enforcement hands representing agencies on all levels.  | click here to read more |

If you are a torch runner or a friend of one, you can start your own fundraising page to earn incentive awards. For instance the first $50 in donations, you will receive a FREE LETR Event Shirt.  Visit http://LETR.kintera.org/STR to find out more.
