2,200 Special Olympics Athletes and Coaches Heading for Binghamton
2008 State Summer Games is Special Olympics New York's Largest Competition.
All Events Free and Open to the Public.


Special Olympics New York has just announced that its 2008 State Summer Games will be held at Binghamton University June 12 to 14. More than 2,200 athletes and coaches from across the state will attend the Games, the largest of 400 Special Olympics competitions held annually in New York.| Click here to read full story |

I'd like to be the first to report that in 2007, Special Olympics New York provided 3,822 competitive opportunities (including individual games at schools, in leagues and in Local, Regional and State Games Competitions) throughout the state.

  Another interesting fact I would love to share is the number of registered athletes in the state has increased from 43,963 in 2006 to 46,106 in 2007.  | click here to read more |

2008 Winter Games - From the grand entrance of the 2008 Winter Games athletes, accompanied by the highly decorated Knights of Columbus, to the Wyoming County Correctional Facility color guard, and from the talented local group "Dance 22" to the Bryon-Bergen High School Marching Band playing the famous "Rocky" theme, the tremendous excitement of Friday's Opening Ceremonies officially catapulted our Winter Weekend into action in February. ...

Those little yellow ducks are returning to New York City this summer to help Special Olympics New York raise the bucks!

On August 6th approximately 25,000 rubber ducks will take the plunge into the East River and race from the Brooklyn Bridge to South Street Seaport for the 2008 Million Dollar Duck Race.

Law Enforcement Torch Run Legs will be operating all across New York State, in May and June. The Final Leg will travel from Syracuse to Binghamton for the 2008 Special Olympics New York Summer Games. More details to be posted soon.

Special Olympics New York MISSION

To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, including mental retardation giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of skills and friendship with their families, Special Olympics athletes and the community. Through their participation in Special Olympics New York athletes gain confidence and build a positive self-image, which carries into the classroom, the home, the workplace and the community.
