   2010 FBBI Conference Preview
          "The Great Recovery"
      Getting Results In Challenging Times

No business has been immune to the current challenging economic climate, consumer spending reduction, high unemployment and difficult borrowing atmosphere.  The hospitality industry is experiencing its share of reduced occupancy, lower revenues and value oriented consumers.  If you have survived so far, the unknown future of the worst recession since the great depression and what type of recovery may occur still makes even the financially strongest wary of potential outcomes.  On September 19-20, 2010 the FBBI will be bringing an array of guest speakers and knowledgeable industry leaders to Club Continental  in Orange Park, Florida to help our membership create and sustain their own recovery in these difficult times.

Our conference will focus on opportunities that challenging times generate for those who are aware and choose to pursue strategies that work to their advantage in gaining market share and improved results.   Considering your business from all angles, speakers will examine what are the most relevant and tested keys to survival and improvement in difficult times.  Since these industry leaders support and test strategies in the real world of Innkeeping, you will hear what has worked and is working to gain improvement in today's reality.  Whether it is financial knowledge, internet savvy, customer service enhancement or breakfast making skills, we will provide the experts to give you insight on how to get better fast.

One of the greatest challenges of running small businesses, including Inns, is finding the time to work ON your business instead of just IN your business.  Breaking away from the constant demands of doing the work to think about how it's working and what can be changed to improve is critical to long term success.  This conference is your nearby opportunity to see and interact with world class industry experts that have done the thinking and tested the theories about how to do business better.  The time and cost of this opportunity are no less an investment in your future than quality linens, guest amenities or the dcor you need to entice guests to experience your Inn.  The FBBI conference committee will endeavor to challenge our speakers and you to come prepared to experience the best ideas of our industry and learn how they can apply to your personal circumstances and specific property.

Set aside the dates and plan the time now to invest in the survival and revival of your business during this great opportunity to learn from the best in the industry and your fellow Florida Innkeepers.

Dear Members,

The Holidays are just around the corner and we are looking forward to increasing sales as our guests return for the holidays.
Many people are stuggling in this economic environment.  Consumers are holding back.  Florida's season of travelers are just beginning to arrive and there is hope for the future.

When I think of 10% unemployment rate, I also think of the 90% that are employed.  The travelers who have jobs, are getting a regular paycheck and look forward to their vacation.  Maybe they are cutting back on the distance traveled or some are thinking about supporting their local (Florida) economy.

I recently received an email about looking at the everyday products we buy.  You'd be surprised that light bulbs are made in America as well as other countries, while the retail price is comparable.  Bounce Dryer Sheets...Bounce costs more money and is made in Canada.  The everyday value brand is less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years, at almost half the price. My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA...the job you save may be you own or your neighbors!

This past week I went to a new Bed and Breakfast opening in Palmetto, FL.  It was encouraging to see enthusiasm from the community.  Lots of people came out to view the B & B from the Mayor to the Police Chief.  We serve a need in many communities and people love the idea of having one available for them to send guests to.  So, keep in mind the public relations that goes along with being involved in your community, hosting meetings for local groups and by being seen, they will remember you when they have a need.

Thanks,
