TEAM WORK

It's everyone working in concert with each other to accomplish the same goals that makes the process successful and encourages each one to succeed.  In this time of financial uncertainty, we find that travelers are staying one night, instead of two;  are making reservations at the last minute; or staying closer to home, we need to be versatile, accommodating and extra sensitive to their needs.  Florida Bed and Breakfast Inns Association is asking that our Member Inns pay extra attention to the traveling public when recommending FBBI Association Member Bed and Breakfasts in the State.   We need to stick together and help each other succeed by keeping in touch with each other, sharing trends you see happening with your guests and encouraging your guests to stay at Member Inns.  The traveling public appreciates your knowledge of other Member Inns and our FBBI Brochure is the perfect tool to help others and let others help you.  When your state organization is strong and working together we all benefit.  There is always a current brochure on line at www.florida-inns.com.

This is a great time to reach out to other Member Inns in the State and exchange information about your self and get to know something about another Inn in a different part of the state.  As we all know, Innkeepers are friendly, and often times feel alone in their struggle to survive this economy.   This would be a good way to not feel so isolated by reaching out and getting to know someone else in your field.

I encourage you to write and let me know your experience in reaching out to another Inn that you may not know.  Your success story could be retold in our next newsletter.  Think about contacting another Inn about a 2 or 3 hour drive from you.  It's far enough away for a guest to travel to on their way home and they will be more secure in knowing you recommended another Inn you have confidence in.

I've recognized over the years that people who work together to accomplish a goal is far more rewarding than feeling you are out there all alone - because you are not alone when FBBI Member Inns stick together to be strong.

Scrapbooking Anyone?

Have your weekends been slow lately?  Looking for new ideas to bring guest to your B&B?  Have you thought about a girl's weekend, scrapbooking, beading, or artist weekend?

You must be willing to bend the rules and move the furniture, set up tables for the group to work. Be willing for them to be in your common area all day & night.  One advantage besides the income, you don't have to clean up &/or vacuum until they leave on Sunday.

Scrapbooking works well for the owners of Hampton Lake Bed & Breakfast.  The groups (so far all women) arrive on Friday afternoon & evening and stay until Sunday afternoon.    They will work all hours going to bed at different times and will get up at different times.  We set up tables for them to work in our common area, dining room and one of our large bedrooms. We prepare all their meals from Friday dinner thru Sunday lunch.  They will often eat outside on the porches, because they may be using the dining room table to scrapbook.  You must be able and willing to provide all meals. Most groups enjoy drinking wine in the afternoon & night.   It works best if they rent the whole house. You will need to be flexible with your pricing and will need to include the rooms as well as food.  Most groups are paying per person.  Also remember most women will share a bed.

Hospitality Tips

Hotel/Motels are now taking on the traits that bed and breakfast have always had by serving breakfast, many even have hot breakfast.  Most of them have also added the amenities that bed and breakfast provide.  Be sure you don't get left behind.

Must have:

Alarm clock
TV (hopefully DVD player as well)
Hair dryer
Iron & ironing board
Bathroom amenities
Clutter free area for guest toiletries
WI-FI
Full length mirror
Outstandingly comfortable beds
Always a gracious SMILE
