Happy New Year to All. Your FBBI Board is working hard to help guests find your Inn. There are many things happening behind the scene. The new web site is constantly being modified to meet the need of the consumer and our member inns. We are thrilled to share with you our full page advertisement about Weddings in the January issue of "Inns Magazine", that is being distributed in Canada and Northern United States. It will be on the shelves from January through March. This is only one way we are reaching new markets for you. Our special Wedding page section of the web site will help drive more guests to your Inn. This venue is perfect for small and large Inns alike, so please take advantage and sign up now for this special Wedding section of our new web site. Even in this economy people still get married all the time. The FBBI Board will be meeting at Amelia Island Williams House on January 18 & 19 for the regular quarterly Board Meeting. We are working on new ideas for increasing membership, both for vendor members and new Inn members. Other items on the agenda will be discussing frequent stay programs and discussions on how to help our member inns be more prosperous in 2009. Any ideas you may wish to share with us are welcome. Brainstorming is one of the best ways to come up with new innovative ideas to help our industry. Our new web site statistics are better than ever. We encourage you to add specials and events to your FBBI web page. This is an easy way to keep traffic coming to your Inn. You simply log in and make changes or add special and events at your convenience. Also it's easy to add a nearby city to your web page. So many Inns are within 25 miles of another city and can be seen by potential guests easily under that city when they are considering where to spend their vacation. As we emphasized at the September Conference, we need to stay united and joined together as a group so we can accomplish much together and not feel isolated and alone, which is sometimes the case in slower economic times. Florida Bed & Breakfast Inns Association is here for you and wants your input and ideas on what our member inns would like to see achieved by us. Pattie Detwiler, President - FBBI

Green INN' Tip of the Month What haven't we covered in this section of the FBBI newsletter in the past year? Simple steps like raising the thermostat, installing CFLs (compact fluorescent lightbulbs), encouraging guests to re-use towels... We also have talked about more challenging improvements like installing new windows or native landscaping requiring no irrigation. But the one thing we really haven't touched on is the fact that your property, your bed and breakfast, is truly a part of one of the most unique kinds of "recycling." You have taken a home and given it new life as a place for travelers to stay and enjoy. That is one of the best "green ideas" out there, be sure to remind your guests, friends, family and others of that fact! Happy New Year to all of you!

Cleaning Tip of the Month
Brightening White Grout
Baking soda cleans grout without scratching tiles.
Because baking soda quickly loses its abrasive properties in water, it's best to wet grout, then apply soda with a brush, scrubbing small sections at a time. ________________________________________________________
Special & Events
Quick reminder of the new web feature that enables members to display specials and events on our website. This will not only put our website higher in ranking, but it will receive more traffic and inquiries.

LEMON COCONUT LOAF
1-3/4 cups of butter, softened 2 cups sugar 3 plus 2 tablespoons lemon juice 4 eggs 3 cups all-purpose flour 2 tsps baking powder ½ tsp salt 1 cup milk ½ cup shredded coconut 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel ¼ cup of confectioners sugar Preheat oven to 350*. In mixing bowl, cream butter, sugar and 3 tablespoons lemon juice. Add eggs, one at a time, heating well after each addition. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in coconut and lemon peel. Pour into two, greased 8 x 4-inch loaf pans. Bake 60 to 70 minutes. Cool 10 minutes. Remove from pan to wire rack. Combine confectioner's sugar and remaining 2 tablespoons lemon juice and brush over loaf. Yields 2 loaves. (We only use the sugar topping if we use it for tea bread in the afternoon) Enjoy! |
