Cleaning Tip

Here's a little secret we'll share with you!  A mixture of baking soda and buttermilk is the magic solution in stain removal!  Put on wine, blood, or any other stain, let sit for 30 minutes and wash!  Takes that stain right out!

The topic of our release was "Going Green" and the article featured the following member inns: BayView Bed & Breakfast in Pine Island, House on Cherry in Jacksonville, The Quilter's Inn in Wauchula, Thurston House B&B in Maitland and Turtle Beach Inn, Port St. Joe. If you would like to see the news release, please CLICK HERE to view a copy on the website
Also, if you see this topic written about in your local paper or an industry magazine, please let us know.

"GreenINN" Tip of the Month

greenery       Use Earth Day as a special event/package opportunity. One of the things that makes B&B Inns so interesting and unique is that each one is truly a recycled house -- a home that has a new purpose. And with many of you focusing on green efforts, Earth Day, April 22nd, is the perfect time to come up with something creative to promote. Here are a few ideas:

  • Give each guest a small tree to plant on the grounds

  • Send each guest home with a tree to plant at home

  • Create fabric shopping bags with your Inn logo as a take-away gift for guests

  • If you're into the green movement teach a green class at your Inn for guests and locals (i.e. teach them how to compost, have a guest speaker from the Sierra Club, etc.)

  • Get involved in a local Earth Day event or activity in your community and allow guests to participate

Just be certain that if you do a special earth day promotion you send a brief to your local media and/or visitors information center, so they can promote it, as well.

Recipe of the Month

Easy Lemon Bars

1 14- ounce can sweetened condensed milk               lemons
      2 tablespoons grated lemon zest

      1/4 cup lemon juice

        3 cups all purpose flour
      1 cup sugar

 cup softened butter

 tsp salt

 cup sweetened salt flaked coconut

Preheat the oven to 375* Grease a 13 x 9x2 inch baking pan.

Mix the milk, lemon zest, and lemon juice until thick.

Mix the flour, sugar, butter and salt until the mixture is crumbly (I use a Cuisinart).  Reserve 1-1/2 cups and press the remainder firmly into the prepared pan.  Spoon the milk mixture over the top and spread carefully to cover.

Mix the coconut into the reserved flour mixture.  Sprinkle this evenly over the batter and press lightly.  Bake for 25- 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Cool on a wire rack and cut into bars.  Makes 36 bars.

Enjoy!
