Back to School & Swine 'Flu

Where did the Summer go?  I've just realised that the last newsletter was sent in June.

Now most people are facing back into an Autumn routine that may be complicated by the addition of Swine 'Flu.

Indigo Essences Practitioner Course
The last part of the first Indigo Essences practitioner course will take place in early September. I've enjoyed every minute of it. The bunch taking the course have been a real inspiration to me and together we've learnt a lot more about the Indigo Essences too.

Someday soon, there will be 20 practitioners trained to offer Indigo Essence consultations in the UK. 

Survey results
We ran a survey in June to find out how people feel about alcohol free versions of our essences. The results showed that most parents & children would prefer an alcohol free version while therapists want us to keep producing the concentrate version.........I'll let you know more about our plans for these changes in the next newsletter.

Back to School & Swine 'Flu
They sound like strange bed-fellows, but it is likely that cases of Swine 'Flu will increase as soon as the children go back to school.

'Flu's tend to worsen annually in the autumn and going back to school increases the likely hood of exposure to the virus. There isn't anything much you can do about that, apart from being sensible and following good hygiene advice.

Autumn is a stressful time. Your body has to deal with changing weather, temperatures move up and down quickly, necessitating almost constant adjustment which can be stressful.

You and your family probably have to resume a routine which may not suit your body clock. For some people this means that they can't rest when their body needs to take time for vital repairs.

Going back to school and resuming a winter regimen can be emotionally and mentally stressful,  resulting in increased tension and poor sleep.

All of the above can contribute to decreased immunity.

But there are things you can do to make sure you and your family are in the best possible health when and if you do come in contact with the virus.

Balance yourselves daily with essences
Most of us have lots of tools but forget to use them until after we get sick.

So promise yourself you'll make time each day to check and see if anyone in the family needs essences. By treating minor imbalances as they occur you can prevent yourselves getting seriously out of whack.  Dis-ease can only thrive in an unbalanced body, so the more balanced you are, the less likely you are to get a serious dose.

Pay attention to your diet
During a sickness such as 'flu your body needs to be able to de-toxify quickly and efficiently.  If your body is very toxic and your organs of elimination (such as kidneys, liver etc) are sluggish it will take your wonderful immune system much longer to do the job it's designed to do.

Eat lightly - eat as much fresh, preferably raw, green veg and fruit as you can.

Cut out the usual suspects: processed food, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, dairy products, wheat.

Drink lots of water.

If you feel toxic go to your local whole food shop and ask for advice on herbal tinctures and de-tox teas to help clear you out.

Go out in the garden and pick new nettle leaves and make tea with them. This is more usually done in springtime but there are new plants growing around now.  Nettles are full of minerals : calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, silica, iodine, silicon, sodium, and sulfur. They are good sources of chlorophyll, tannin,  vitamin C, beta-carotene and B complex vitamins.

Pay attention to your emotional, mental and spiritual state
We live in times of great change, which can also mean great stress for most of us. These stresses can make us extra susceptible to being sick.

Interestingly, one of the homeopathic remedies used with great success during the 1916-18 pandemic was Gelsemium, a remedy that counts 'ailments from fear, fright anticipation & bad news' amongst its symptoms.  Another remedy that was used very successfully during that pandemic was Bryonia, which has 'fear of poverty' and 'dreams of business' as two of it's mental symptoms. You can see how the mental state of these two remedies could fit any number of people who find themselves caught in the turmoil of the recession. 

Don't get caught up in fear
At the moment Swine 'flu is not even as virulent as a normal seasonal 'flu. Give yourself a mental spring clean and don't get toxic listening to the news 24/7.

Pay attention to your thoughts, stay positive and don't hang onto fears about what might happen.

Take time out for yourself every day - sit, meditate, be still.
Choose an essence or two and hold them as you sit. They will help you re-balance and release whatever fears or worries you want to let go of.

If you do get the 'flu
Your preferred treatment is up to you, personally I'll be opting for essences and homeopathy. Homeopathy was used with great effect in the last great pandemic and every homeopath has more than two dozen remedies in their toolbox which cover the symptoms of Swine Flu.
