FRAMEweb Fall Survey 2010 Results are in!

Frameweb launched a survey this fall to gather feedback from users on how they use the site, what topics and features are of most interest, and what they would like to learn more about. The survey was sent out in English, Spanish and French and we received 106 responses.  The topics of highest interest to people continue to be climate change and Community-Based Natural Resource ManageSurvey image 2010ment (CBNRM). However, you also mentioned a diverse set of additional interests including: wetlands, biodiversity, drylands management, agribusiness and agroforestry, natural resource and human wildlife conflicts and environmental education, etc.

Many of you also have expressed interest in the Network feature as you did last year - we highly encourage you to try filtering or searching for people, organizations or similar interests. You also are interested in the news feeds which are automatically populated by websites we think may be of interest to your communities. If you have any suggestions, let us know!  It sounds like many of you had a busy year, but are interested in participating this year. We look forward to hearing from you. Remember, this site is designed to be user-generated, which means we rely on all of you to share information with your peers about the interesting work and hot topics you have for discussion.

Hot Topics!

Community-based Natural Resource Management in Southern Africa

This year welcomed a new community focused on stocktakings taking place across southern Africa, including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, with more countries to come. Of particular interest are initiatives that mainstream CBNRM at a national policy level and discussions focused on how to scale up the impact of CBNRM. A few discussion topics include How can we make "imposed" or donor- or project-driven CBNRM more successful and sustainable? and How can CBNRM advocates and practitioners expand Joint Forest Management (JFM) in Zambia? Log on and join in!

Natural Resource Management - Haiti
This year saw massive changes for the Economic Development for a Sustainable Environment project (DEED) program in Haiti whose mission had been to provide rural communities in Haiti with the economic incentives and knowledge to improve the management of critical watersheds and natural resources. However, the community is back and actively engaged with success stories, bulletins, newsletters and websites in French, English and Creole. Check out DEED Sucecss Story - Tree Nursery or a story about Beehives and Honey Production. Have a question about how NRM practices are fairing in Haiti post-earthquake? Ask!

USAID's popular seminar series held in person continued to host discussions on issues related to biodiversity, climate change, natural security, forestry, ecosystems services and more. The FRAMEweb community archives the videos of these presentaitons and hosts follow-up discussions. Join the discussion regardless if you attended the event. GeoExplorer Tool Launched and Looking to the Future!
Map Your Activities

The FRAMEweb GeoExplorer ScreenshotGeoexplorer tool was launched this summer! GeoExplorer is a geospatial tool that provides access to searchable, location-based information on natural resource management initiatives. Its purpose is to foster knowledge sharing across the conservation and development community through an interactive, on-line map. Content is user-generated and can compliment discussions in different communities of practice.

Coming Soon!
This year we are working to increase the analytical capabilities of the GeoExplorer, adding data layers such as landuse/landcover, protected areas, soil types, etc. We are also working to increase the number of activities in the database. Please help us! Do you have an interesting success story or lesson learned you'd like to share with others? Click here to access the GeoExplorer.

Coming Soon - FRAMEweb 3.0!
