Nick Maki Helping Skiers at the Snow Mountain Stampede

Field Report from the North Routt Coureur de Bois (aka Glide the Divide)

I am just writing to inform on the 90k ultramarathon kick wax situation I ran into this weekend.  I waxed 2 pairs of classic skis: 1 pair for skiing around a flat lake on crust snow, so I basically double poled the entire time and another klister waxed pair for 15k to 90k. After the first 15k I switched skis at a road crossing, which alot of people did.  I had ironed in a base green klister binder, then red klister and silver klister 1:1.  Even in the super abbrasive snow it held up and kicked well.  I carried 2 spray klisters with me, however, I never reapplied wax.  The klister held and still kicked perfectly after 90k!!!  I couldn't believe it.  I had around 8 people come up to me after the race who were skating wondering how I was kicking and gliding so well, they were even more astonished than I was.  I showed them the bottom of my skis and they couldn't believe it.  The snow transformed into wet corn snow but the first 20k I skied on them the snow was super abrasive and cold.  I just couldn't believe the durability.

Well that's all I really have.  I just wanted to inform you of the amazing durablity and versatility of that wax combo.
