Blueline IntroOVERVIEW
Blue Line Equipment Company is a leading developer and manufacturer of truck-mounted carpet cleaning equipment. Due to the complex nature of the equipment they produce, education and training are critical components of the sales process and ongoing customer relationship.

 In a review of post-sale activity with customers, Blue Line identified a number of occurrences of component failures unusually early in the product life cycle. Sensitive to the fact that their products represent a substantial business investment for their customers, Blue Line wanted to be proactive about helping customers limit costly downtime and repairs so they dug deeper. Further investigation determined that many customers were not following important operation and maintenance procedures. 

Blue Line was using an introductory sales video to familiarize customers with the product, but it didn't include enough detailed information about key features, functions, and more importantly, ongoing maintenance requirements for their core products. They turned to Infographics to aide in the design and development of a more comprehensive multi-media sales, marketing and training tool to help address the problem.
Client Objectives
  • Develop a new, more engaging marketing tool that introduces potential customers to key products and accessories in Blue Line's offering
  • Function as both a sales and training tool - covering a broad base of audience informational needs
  • Describe general features and functions representing the core products in Blue Line's product offering
  • Demonstrate essential operation and maintenance functions and stress the importance of ongoing service and maintenance activities to maintain productivity and extend product life
  • Deliver in a format suitable for a variety of applications including sales, introductory training, web deployment, trade shows and possibly other venues  
  • Wherever possible, leverage their existing investment in CAD data, product photos, training information and video assets
infographics� Solution
After a thorough assessment of existing assets, we outlined a development plan to integrate those elements with new video, animation and graphics to convey all of the key messages. Then we spent two days shooting new footage of key product operation and maintenance activities, as well as footage or product being manufactured in their factory. Using a combination all of these elements, Infographics was able to create a multi-media DVD to address all of BlueLine's communication objectives. The DVD is user controlled and contains five "chapters" covering key areas of information including introductory company information, product controls, operation, maintenance and accessories. Users can select from any of the five chapters or use a "play-all" function to review all five in sequence. The combination of media effectively conveys key information and helps to keep users engaged. A voice-over track provides explanation and seamlessly integrates transitions from one medium to the next.

Results
  • Internal and external response to the new training tool has been overwhelmingly positive - dealers and distributors are using the DVD as a tool for nearly all new sales opportunities
  • By leveraging CAD data and existing product images for portions of the DVD, Blue Line was able to develop a new, more effective training tool for a fraction of the cost of creating an all-new video tutorial
  • The multi-media format makes it easy for Blue Line to use the DVD for numerous applications, including contractor training, web deployment, consumer instruction, and incorporating into exhibits at national and international tradeshows
  • Future revisions and additional information can easily be added to the DVD without major content modifications
