| From Pastor Jim | |
Dear Friends,
What a wonderful Congregation Town Hall meeting we had! Thanks to everyone who participated and made this important event so wonderful! We accomplished some essential items:
- We elected the following people to the Ordained office of Elder: (Paul Bedsole, Richard Calloway, Ron Dryden, Margie Thompson, and Joie McGee.)
- We voted to set aside our by laws and extend the Elder class of 2012 to 2013.
- We added the Ordained Office of Deacon.
- We heard a report from our Congregational Relations Committee about the changes that have occurred in the PCUSA.
This Friday is our 1st - 5th Quarter. 5th quarter is where we open our church campus after the Fleming Island High School Home football games, to all 8th- 12th graders - to come a hang out in a safe environment. Please keep this ministry in your prayers.
As Hurricane Isaac passed us, please keep the folks on the Gulf Coast in your prayers. If you received any damage from the storm we want to hear about it so we an pray for you.
As always remember - God is GOOD! ALL the time! Your pastor and friend... Jim Weldon |

This Weeks Funnies
|
When we are devoted to the development of kindness it becomes a movement of the heart so deep and subtle it is like a movement of the sea close to the ocean floor, all but hidden, yet affecting absolutely everything that happens above. That's the force of kindness. - Sharon Salzberg
"In prosperity our friends know us; in adversity we know our friends." - J. Churton Collins
- If you find something you like, buy a lifetime supply, because they will stop making it. - If you eat a live frog in the morning, nothing worse will happen to either of you for the rest of the day. - Sign outside a Dairy Queen: "Scream until daddy stops the car!" - If you can read the writing on the wall, it means the kids have found the crayons. - How many of you believe in psycho-kinesis? OK, then raise my hand. - I don't have a solution, but I admire the problem. - Confidence is the feeling you have before you really understand the problem. - There are only two things a child will share willingly: communicable diseases and his mother's age. - Cleaning your house while your kids are at home is like trying to shovel the driveway during a snowstorm.
A doctor has come to see one of his patients in a hospital. The patient has had major surgery to both of his hands. "Doctor," says the man excitedly and dramatically holds up his heavily bandaged hands. "The nurse told me that I will be able to play the piano when these bandages come off?" "I don't see why not," replies the doctor. "Hmmm, then I better start learning how to read music."
After booking my 80-year-old grandmother on a flight from Florida to Nevada, I called the airline to go over her special needs. The representative listened patiently as I requested a wheelchair and an attendant for my mother because of her arthritis and impaired vision to the point of near blindness. My apprehension lightened a bit when the woman assured me that everything would be taken care of. I thanked her profusely. "Oh, you're welcome," she replied. I was about to hang up when she cheerfully asked, "And will your grandmother need a rental car?"
When she died in 1997 at the age of 122, Jeanne Calment was the oldest living human whose birth date could be authenticated. At the age of 120, she was asked to describe her vision for the future. She replied, "Very brief."
At a yard sale one day I saw a box marked "Electronic cat and dog caller -- guaranteed to work." After I looked inside, I was amused to see an electric can opener.
