Dear Friends,
Announcing the birth of Allison Grace Cornell! 8 lbs. 3 oz. Allison was born on 08.03.12, to Greg and Sara Cornell and big sister Alexa. Let's reach out and welcome this new child!
You may have noticed the message on our sign that read "We Support Chick-fil-A." I would like to tell you why I put that message on the sign. As you know this church supports a traditional view of marriage. The Bible tells us that God established the bond and covenant of marriage between a man and a woman in creation, and our Lord Jesus Christ adorned this manner of life by His presence and first miracle at a wedding in Cana of Galilee.
Marriage signifies to us the mystery of the union between Christ and His Church, and Holy Scripture commends it to be honored among all people. The union of husband and wife in heart, in body, in spirit and life, is intended by God for: their mutual joy; for the help and comfort given to one another in prosperity and adversity; and when it is God's will, for the procreation of children and their nurture in the knowledge and love of the Lord.
The Bible also tells us that God created us male and female, and gave us marriage so that husband and wife may help and comfort each other, living faithfully together in plenty and in want, in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health, throughout all their days. God gave us marriage for the full expression of the love between a man and a woman.
In marriage a man and a woman belong to each other, and with affection and tenderness freely give themselves to each other. God gave us marriage for the well-being of human society, for the ordering of family life, and for the birth and nurture of children. God gave us marriage as a holy mystery in which a man and a woman are joined together, and become one, just as Christ is one with the church.
In marriage, husband and wife are called to a new way of life, created, ordered, and blessed by God. The Bible tells us that marriage is given by God, blessed by our Lord Jesus Christ, and sustained by the Holy Spirit. Viewing marriage as merely a political institution cheapens marriage and goes against its God given intention.
Does Chick-fil-A discriminate against homosexual workers or clientele? No, they do not. If that were the case, I would understand the protest. No one should be discriminated against. Now it could seem that by putting, we support chick-fil-a on our sign we are discriminating against homosexuals. This too is NOT the case. We welcome anyone in our church regardless of the sin they struggle with. You have heard me say we are a "hospital for sinners," which means we welcome any and everyone to come and find the healing, forgiveness and reconciliation offered to everyone in Jesus Christ. We wouldn't be much of a hospital if we didn't want to help people get better by confronting brokenness and sin. A lot is at stake. Romans 6:23 (NLT) "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." We want to help as many people as we can come to know healing and freedom in Jesus Christ.
I find it sad that just because one man voiced his personally held religious beliefs about marriage that disagreed with the agenda the homosexual lobby is pushing, they organized a protest. He had the right to voice his beliefs. Frankly, I too, am tired of being called names, put down, bullied, and pushed around because I am a Christian and voice my opinion which goes against how the media wants me to think.
However, I am also not surprised by the protest. Jesus himself in his most famous sermon ever said this. Matthew 5:10-12 (NIV) "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." In other words, whenever we take a stand for the right thing and speak the truth, expect persecution.
To quote the famous theologian, Forrest Gump, "And that's all I have to say about that."
The start of the school year is rapidly approaching and as is our practice, we will pray for all students who are returning to school this Sunday, August 12th.

This Weeks Funnies
| |
A man was telling his neighbor, "I just bought a new hearing aid. It cost me $4,000, but it's state of the art."
"Really?" answered the neighbor. "What kind is it?"
"Twelve-thirty."
"I used to be a people person but people ruined that for me."
Love means nothing to tennis players
A cop just knocked on my door and told me my dogs were chasing people on bikes. I told him, My dogs don't even own bikes!
As an obstetrician, I sometimes see unusual tattoos when working in labor and delivery. One patient had some type of fish tattoo on her abdomen. "That sure is an unusual looking whale," I commented. With a sad smile she replied, "It used to be a dolphin."
Stupid Things Actually Said By Commentators In The World Of Soccer*
Well, it's Liverpool two, Ipswich nil, and if the score stays this way, I've got to fancy Liverpool for the win. 2. He had an eternity to play that ball, but took too long. 3. And so they have not been able to improve on their 100% record. 4. With the last kick of the game, he scored with a header. 5. Well, it's a fabulous kaleidoscope of colour: almost all the Brazilians are wearing yellow shirts. 6. If that had gone on, it would definitely have been a goal. 7. Their manager, Howard Wilkinson, isn't here today, which strongly suggests that he may be elsewhere. 8. I am a firm believer that if one team scores a goal, the other need to score two to win. 9. If a team scores early on, it often takes an early lead. 10. You cannot possibly have counted the number of passes made, but there were eight.
