Issue 26 Volume 10  - Week of July 1, 2012

From Pastor Jim

Dear Friends,

Our K-Kamp, a week long camp for children grades 1st-5th, was awesome!  We took 6 kids to Camp Montgomery. A special "WAY to GO!" to Tina Calloway and Heath Schopp for their leadership on this retreat!  K-Kamp was a huge success and all survived Tropical Storm Debby.  Thank you to all the kids who participated in the first ever K-Kamp.

It has been a busy summer here at FIPC!  And we are not through yet! VBS is coming soon. VBS is a great way for you to get involved and make a difference in a child's life.  Contact Tina Calloway for more information.

God is GOOD!  ALL the time!
Your pastor and friend...

 A New Day

by

In a morning meeting I recently attended, the person who opened the gathering began by praying, "Lord, thanks for today. It is the beginning of a new day we have never seen before." Although the idea seemed obvious, that prayer got me thinking about a couple of different things. First, because each day is a new opportunity, it will be filled with things we cannot anticipate or even prepare for. Therefore, it's important that we recognize our limitations and lean heavily on God-intentionally choosing to live in His grace and strength rather than relying on our own resources.

The second thing that occurred to me is that the newness of each day is a gift worth celebrating. Perhaps this concept was what prompted the psalmist to declare, "This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" (Ps. 118:24).

Of course, we face many unknowns today-and some could be difficult. But the treasure of each brand-new day is so special that Moses was led to write, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (90:12). Every new day is a precious gift. May we thankfully embrace each one with confident trust and humble celebration.

He whose heart is kind beyond all measure, gives unto each day what He deems best- Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure, Mingling toil with peace and rest. Each new day gives us new reasons to praise the Lord.

This Weeks Funnies

My wife recently retired from teaching. Several years ago, when she was teaching preschool, a little guy was enrolled who was just barely old enough to qualify. The parents and my wife were concerned that he might not be ready for school.

The first day during recess, the little guy came up to my wife and said, "Teacher, this school is hard!"

My wife knelt down to hear his concerns and asked, "Why do you think school is hard?"

He looked at her and rubbed his forehead, "Because when you bump into it, it hurts!"

oday's housekeeping tip: Always keep several get-well cards on the mantle. That way, if unexpected guests arrive, they'll think you've been sick and unable to clean.

Everyone knows I'm a stickler for good spelling. So when an associate e-mailed technical documents asking me to "decifer" them, I had to set him straight.

"Decipher is spelled with a 'ph', not an 'f'," I wrote. "In case you've forgotten, spell checker comes free with word processing program."

A minute later his reply: "Must be dephective."

We were listening to a lecture on psychic phenomena in our Comparative Religions course. Our instructor told us about a woman who contacted police working on a missing-persons case. "She gave eerily detailed instructions on where to find the body," the teacher said. "In fact, the detectives did find the body just as she had described. Now what would you call that kind of person?"      While the rest of us pondered the question, a sheriff's officer taking the course raised his hand and replied, "A suspect."      ---------      A second grader came home from school and said to her mother, "Mom, Guess what? We learned how to make babies today."      The mother, more than a little surprised, asked fearfully, "That's interesting. How do you make babies?"      "It's simple," replied the girl. "You just change 'y' to 'i' and add 'es'."      ---------      While making rounds, a doctor points out an X-ray to a group of medical students. "As you can see," she says, "the patient limps because his left fibula and tibia are radically arched. Michael, what would you do in a case like this?"      "Well," ponders the student, "I suppose I'd limp too."

It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me.      "Is that a dog you got back there?" he asked.      "It sure is," I replied. Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van.      Finally he said, "What'd he do?"
