Issue 25 Volume 10  - Week of June 17, 2012

From Pastor Jim

Dear Friends,

It was good going away and good coming back home.  Thanks to all who filled in during our time away.  Jennifer and I had a lovely time in Alaska as we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and 50th birthdays!

Step Up Youth Mission Camp is well on it's way this week with 38 of our kids from the community and 11 of our adult leaders involved with making a difference right here in our local area.  This week our focus will be on helping out with local mission organizations; Heart for Homeless of Clay County, The Mercy Network, Green Cove Springs Food Pantry, and Seamark Ranch.  Let's keep these folks in our prayers as they make a difference for Christ.

Thank you to Oz, Sandy & Emma May for taking a few days last week and organizing our library in the church office.  Please feel free to stop by and check one out.  Also, thank you to Kim Wolfe for donating and assembling the beautiful bookshelves that house our library.

God is GOOD!  ALL the time!
Your pastor and friend...

 Judge Rightly

by

After a national news magazine posted an online story listing my community as one of the top-10 dying cities in the nation, local citizens were outraged. They registered their indignation, pointing out evidence to the contrary. One resident went to great lengths to disprove the harsh judgment. He recruited local citizens to show up downtown and appear in a video that showcased the vibrancy of our community. The video received international attention, and the news magazine admitted it was wrong. But the organization that had done the "research" stood by the conclusion, even though it was based on limited criteria.

Their self-defense surprised me because their careless conclusion seemed indefensible. But then I thought of how common it is to make faulty judgments based on minimal information. One of the classic biblical examples is that of Job's friends. They wrongly concluded that because a series of tragedies happened to him, Job had sinned.

In the end, God defended Job and offered a startling conclusion. He didn't rebuke his friends for judging Job but for speaking falsely about Himself (Job 42:7). This is a humbling reminder that when we make careless judgments about others, we are sinning against God.

Lord, please restrain my lips when I'm tempted to say what I shouldn't say about people made in Your image. Use my words to bless and not harm.

May I reflect Your heart.
If you are a Christian, remember that people judge your Lord by you.

This Weeks Funnies

My six-year-old grandson called his mother from his friend Charlie's house and confessed he had broken a lamp when he threw a football in their living room.

"But, Mom," he said, brightening, "you don't have to worry about buying another one. Charlie's mother said it was irreplaceable."

A: One.

Q: How many psychics does it take to change a light bulb?

WAYS TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE "ESTROGEN ISSUES"

1. Everyone around you has an attitude problem.

2. The dryer has shrunk every last pair of your jeans.

3. Your husband is suddenly agreeing with everything you say.

4. You're using your cell phone to dial up every bumper sticker that says: "How's my driving."

5. You're adding chocolate chips to your cheese omelet.

A father of five children came home with a new toy. He summoned his children and asked which of them should be given the present: "Who is the most obedient one here? Who never talks back to Mom and does everything that Mom says to do?"

There were a few seconds of silence, and then all of the children said in one accord: "So you get it, Daddy??!"
