FIPC Newsletter

Issue 19 Volume 10  - Week of May 6, 2012

From Pastor Jim

Dear Friends,

FIPC had 18 of our 6th, 7th & 8th graders attend the Daytona Trip.  They had an exciting, crazy, and awesomely spiritual time at the beach.
They enjoyed playing games, listening to awesome Christian music from
Canopy Red, and growing closer to God.  Thank you to our group leaders - Colleen Brennan, Jacque Hobson and Scott Tremaine for investing in our kids and helping them grow in their faith.

Saturday we teamed up with Clay County Cruisers for our best car show ever!  Over 120 cars were entered in the show.  The proceeds from the car show benefited our youth mission work and the Wounded Warrior Project.  Thanks to the Empty Nester's small group, Diana Capito, Ann Roos, Richard Calloway, the youth that came out and all the other volunteers who made this a wonderful event!

Please keep Sara Dryden in your prayers as she recovers from knee replacement surgery.  Sara is home and doing well.

God is GOOD!  ALL the time!

Your pastor and friend...

Jim Weldon

This Week's Devotional
This Week's Devotional
"I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours." (John 17:9 NIV)

Jesus reflected the father heart of God when he prayed for the disciples. As a father or mother, you can pray that your children will focus on the five purposes of God.

God's five purposes for your children are the same as God's five purposes for your life. Jesus prayed for all five purposes in the lives of those he was leading: "I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours" (John 17:9 NIV).

We can pray that our children will live for Christ joyfully: "I pray these things while I'm still in the world so that they will have the same joy that I have" (John 17:13b GW).

We can pray that our children will grow strong spiritually: "I'm not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one" (John 17:15 NLT).

We can pray that our children will serve Christ effectively: "Make them ready for your service through your truth; your teaching is truth" (John 17:17 NCV).

We can pray that our children will experience fellowship personally: "My prayer is that they will be of one heart and mind, just as You and I are one, Father ... and the world will believe You sent Me" (John 17:21 LB).

We can pray that our children will bring others to Christ regularly: "I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in Me because of their message" (John 17:20 TEV).

Talk About It

What are ways you can pray your children live for Christ? Grow strong? Serve Christ? Experience fellowship? Bring others to Christ?

This Weeks Funnies

A reporter, interviewing Jack Nicklaus: "Jack, you are spectacular! You really know your way around the course. What is your secret?"

Jack: "The holes are numbered."

Jealous Eve - After Adam stayed out late a few nights, Eve became suspicious. "You're running around with another woman...admit it!" she demanded.

"What other woman?" Adam shot back. "You're it!"

That night, Adam was fast asleep when he was awakened by Eve poking him in the chest. "What are you doing?"

"Counting your ribs."

Shampoo Alert! - As I was conditioning my hair in the shower this morning, I took time to read my shampoo bottle. SHOCK---The shampoo that runs down my entire body says "for extra volume & body." Seriously, why have I not noticed this before?

Now I understand why I am so "full-figured."

Tomorrow I am going to start using "Dawn" dish soap. It says "dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove."

Matt's dad picked him up from school to take him to a dental appointment. Knowing the parts for the school play were supposed to be posted today, he asked his son if he got a part. Matt enthusiastically announced that he'd gotten a part.

"I play a man who's been married for twenty years."

"Congratulations! That's great, son. Keep up the good work and before you know it they'll be giving you a speaking part."

I live across the street from a church.
When my wife's puppy escaped from the backyard, we went looking for it.

She went off in the car, and I started to walk around the church, calling the dog's name.

I
didn't think anything of it, until I noticed some strange looks from people walking in the area. The dog's name is Moses.
