FIPC Newsletter

Issue 18 Volume 10  - Week of April 29, 2012

From Pastor Jim

Dear Friends,

Here WE GROW AGAIN!  Please join me in welcoming our newest member, Danny Gilmore.  Danny indicated that he joined because he enjoys the friendliness of our FIPC family.

Our first Run For God Bible study class concluded this past weekend.  Instructor Rebecca Like, her husband Jason, and Dawn Vanderpool all participated in the "Race To The Taste 5K" in St. Augustine.  We're happy to report that all three survived the race.

K-Kamp - Today is the last day to register for the best week of your Kids summer!  June 24 -28, 2012 for kids completing 1st - 5th grades.  K-Kamp is a week focused on growing kids' relationships with Christ. Together we will experience Christian community while participating in activities including worship, Bible study, swimming, tubing, arts and crafts, archery, hiking, and all camp recreation.  Click here for more information.

Please keep Sara Dryden in your prayers as she recovers from knee replacement surgery.  Sara is home and doing well.

God is GOOD!  ALL the time!

Your pastor and friend...

Jim Weldon

"Who Your Meant To Be"

by

"Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire." Quoting those words of St. Catherine of Siena, the Bishop of London began his message to Prince William and Kate Middleton at their wedding in Westminster Abbey. Many watching on TV were deeply touched as the bishop affirmed their choice "to be married in the sight of a generous God who so loved the world that He gave Himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ." Then he urged the couple to pursue a love that finds its center beyond themselves.

From Romans 12, the bride's brother read: "I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God-what is good and acceptable and perfect" (vv.1-2 NRSV).

That royal wedding reminds us all, single or married, of two great truths: (1) God's great love for us expressed in the sacrifice of Jesus and (2) God's desire that we find life's greatest joy and transformation in our relationship with Him. Aren't those the keys to becoming the persons God meant us to be?

Although I may not understand

The path You've laid for me,
Complete surrender to Your will-
Lord, this my prayer shall be.
We become who God meant us to be by giving ourselves completely to Him.

This Weeks Funnies

A reporter, interviewing Jack Nicklaus: "Jack, you are spectacular! You really know your way around the course. What is your secret?"

Jack: "The holes are numbered."

Jealous Eve - After Adam stayed out late a few nights, Eve became suspicious. "You're running around with another woman...admit it!" she demanded.

"What other woman?" Adam shot back. "You're it!"

That night, Adam was fast asleep when he was awakened by Eve poking him in the chest. "What are you doing?"

"Counting your ribs."

Shampoo Alert! - As I was conditioning my hair in the shower this morning, I took time to read my shampoo bottle. SHOCK---The shampoo that runs down my entire body says "for extra volume & body." Seriously, why have I not noticed this before?

Now I understand why I am so "full-figured."

Tomorrow I am going to start using "Dawn" dish soap. It says "dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove."

Matt's dad picked him up from school to take him to a dental appointment. Knowing the parts for the school play were supposed to be posted today, he asked his son if he got a part. Matt enthusiastically announced that he'd gotten a part.

"I play a man who's been married for twenty years."

"Congratulations! That's great, son. Keep up the good work and before you know it they'll be giving you a speaking part."

I live across the street from a church.
When my wife's puppy escaped from the backyard, we went looking for it.

She went off in the car, and I started to walk around the church, calling the dog's name.

I
didn't think anything of it, until I noticed some strange looks from people walking in the area. The dog's name is Moses.
