FIPC Newsletter

Issue 12 Volume 10  - Week of March 18, 2012

From Pastor Jim

Dear Friends,

Spring is here (did it ever really leave?)! As we welcome this new season and prepare for Easter, take this time to be rejuvenated by the Holy Spirit and blessed by the grace of our Lord Jesus.  I hope you are experiencing awesome "God moments" as you continue through the 40 Days in the Word campaign.  Please keep all the Micah 6:8 projects in prayer, and celebrate how these small acts of service will bless those who receive it.

Speaking of Spring--it's time for MULCH! The Children and Youth Ministries are selling bags of mulch as a fundraiser for the Summer of Missions 2012.  If you missed the first delivery date, don't worry!  You can still place orders for the second delivery date on April 21st.  The fundraising goal to make this Summer of Missions possible is $6,000.  Get the word out to your friends, and help us fund an experience that will change lives!

Ladies--don't wait any longer.  Let me encourage you to sign up for the FIPC Women's Retreat today and take some time for yourselves.  I guarantee you will enjoy a nice weekend on the beach, and be blessed by the message from guest speaker, Liz Deal.

Congratulations to Diane Capito and Mindy Gordon for completing the Great Banquet, and well done to Patricia Gray and Barb White for serving on the team.  If you would like to experience this awesome retreat, please contact myself or anyone else who has been on the Great Banquet.  The Great Banquet is a 72 hour retreat that allows participants to truly "Be still" and reconnect with the Savior. The Fall 2012 dates will be announced soon, but don't wait.  Ask about it today!

Thank you to Jeff and JT Vanderpool for "going the extra mile" by completing our FIPC Garden Team Work Day.  They planted 28 Indian Hawthorn brushes.

Remember, God is GOOD!  ALL the time!

This Week's Devotional
This Week's Devotional
"I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes." (2 Corinthians 2:10b-11 NIV)

The devil wants to destroy your marriage. He wants to destroy every other good relationship. Why? Because he loves conflict and arguments. He wants to cause confusion, arguments, stress, hurt feelings, disappointment, anger, chaos. He loves to do it. James says you have to give in to God and let him have control. Then, you have to do some defensive action. You have to resist the devil and realize what he's doing. If you get up in the morning and you don't run into the devil head-on, then you're already going in the same direction.

Paul says in 2 Corinthians 2, "I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes." (v. 10b-11 NIV) In other words: Wise up! Recognize Satan's tactics. Know how he operates.

How does the devil operate? He doesn't stand around with a pitchfork and a red suit, like Underwood deviled ham. He plays on our pride - particularly wounded pride. He tells us what we want to hear. He whispers in our ear and gives us little thoughts, suggestions, and ideas. When you're in the middle of an argument, he starts whispering things in your ear, like "You don't have to take this kind of stuff. Retaliate. Who do they think they are? Get even. Assert yourself. Don't put up with this kind of stuff. Show 'em who's boss." He tells you all the things your pride would love to hear.

In response, you have to say, "Satan, I know that's you." Resist him.

You resist the devil the same way Jesus did: He quoted Scripture. Memorize Proverbs 13:10: "Pride leads to conflict" (NLT). The next time you get into an argument, the Lord will bring this verse to mind. Stop and ask yourself, "How am I being prideful here? What am I not willing to admit? Why am I not willing to compromise? Why am I only thinking of myself and not the other person's needs, desires, and attitudes?"

There is a great promise in James 4:7: "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (NIV). You don't have to put up with him. Give in to God, and get wise to Satan.

Talk About It

  • Think of the last time you had an argument. How was your pride involved?
  • Ask a friend to help you memorize Scripture, starting with Proverbs 13:10?

This Weeks Funnies
Early one morning, a mother went in to wake up her son.

"Wake up, son. It's time to go to school!"
"But why, Mom? I don't want to go."
"Give me two reasons why you don't want to go."
"Well, the kids hate me for one, and the teachers hate me, too!"
"Oh, that's no reason not to go to school. Come on now and get ready."
"Give me two reasons why I *should* go to school."
"Well, for one, you're 52 years old. And for another, you're the PRINCIPAL!"

Parental Advice for the day:  If you have a lot of tension and you get a headache, do what it says on the aspirin bottle: Take two and keep away from the children.

CAMPING HINTS

~ When using a public campground, a tuba placed on your picnic table will keep the campsites on either side vacant.

~ To get even with a bear who raided your food bag, kick his favorite stump apart and eat all the ants.

~ You can duplicate the warmth of a down-filled bedroll by climbing into a plastic garbage bag with several geese.

~ Take this simple test to see if you qualify for solo camping: Shine a flashlight into one ear. If the beam shines out the other ear, do not go into the woods alone.

~ A two-man pup tent does not include two men or a pup.

~ A potato baked in the coals for one hour makes an excellent side dish. A potato baked in the coals for three hours makes an excellent hockey puck.

~ Bear bells provide an element of safety for hikers in grizzly country. The tricky part is getting them on the bears.

~ The sight of a bald eagle has thrilled campers for generations. The sight of a bald man, however, does absolutely nothing for the eagle.

Playing Through: A man was about to tee off on the golf course when he felt a tap on his shoulder and a man handed him a card that read, "I am a deaf mute.  May I play through, please?"

The first man angrily gave the card back, and made it clear that, no, he may NOT play through, and that his handicap did not give him such a right.

The first man whacked the ball onto the green & left to finish the hole.

Just as he was about to put his ball into the hole he was hit in the head with a golf ball, laying him out cold.

When he came to, a few minutes later, he looked around and saw the deaf mute sternly looking at him, one hand on his hip, the other holding up 4 fingers.
