Greetings!
In May we had the privilege of ministering to SW Regional Crisis Pregnancy Centers senior leaders during their annual retreat. As people known for their dedication to families dealing with crisis pregnancies, these leaders selflessly pour themselves out for others. They valued the opportunity to take time to seek God for their own needs - and related that they were blessed and inspired to go back on the front lines of battle at their local centers.

What we taught in these sessions will encourage all servant-leaders to cultivate their spiritual health. Over the next 3 issues of The Cultivator, we will share that content with you in what we're calling our "-ATION" Series (because each one features a word containing "-ATION") -  beginning today with Impartation: You Can't Give Away What You Don't Have.

As we adjust to summer's demands (kids out of school, VBS, vacations, fire danger and heat-relief), d-and-v-in-brownwe can easily be distracted and neglect our spiritual health. Don't let that happen! Combine your well-deserved rest with renewing your walk with God.

Keep growing!

IMPARTATION: First in a 3-Part "-ATION" Series

Sharing from experience is powerful.

It's a simple leadership principle that's easy to overlook in the hustle and bustle of ministry work - a principle modeled beautifully by Old Testament prophetess Deborah. She was able to impart courage to the Hebrew people because she knew what it took to be courageous.

During a crucial juncture in her nation's history, as Israel was to be attacked by arch-enemy Canaan, Deborah stretched herself to live with courage.
  • She heard directions from God and believed them. Even though others around her did not value women, nevertheless Deborah mustered the courage to trust God's voice as He spoke to her. God gave Deborah a clear outline for the Israelite counter-attack.
  • She shared those directions clearly to others. Deborah called a meeting with Israel's army commander Barak and explained God's plan for deliverance. Barak was willing to go into battle - riding shotgun for her, but only if Deborah agreed to go with him.group of women
She carried out her role in the plan. Deborah lured the enemy into battle - a messy business - and then stayed with the 10,000 Israelite troops until the enemy had fallen into their hands.
As a woman in ancient times, Deborah may not have been viewed as courageous. She may not have felt courageous. But nevertheless, she demonstrated courage and imparted it to her people by acting on what she knew to be true about God. The result was that her people, too, responded courageously, which led to a miraculous deliverance that lasted 40 years.

What do you need to impart in your workplace, in your family, or in your ministry? Bring it to God and allow Him cultivate it in you first. Because you can't give it away (impart it) if you don't have it already.

Growth Point

What you impart has to be yours before you give it away.

When the princes in Israel take the lead, when the people willingly offer themselves -
praise the Lord! (Judges 5:2, NIV)

Prayer Points

  • Think of a time when you (or someone you know) tried to tell others to do something, without having had experience. How did that work for the team?
  • What might God be calling on you to cultivate in your life or your heart so that you are prepared to impart it to others?
  • "A dry well can't give water." What are the steps you can take to ensure you keep filling your well?
What People Are Saying ...

Thanks so much for your message at Fellowship CRC on June 10! I further enjoyed our conversation about how young people receive their 'calling' to vocation and to the Lord. I hope that you are as energized by your occasional opportunities to preach, as we were, to hear the Word in your message. Our prayers go out to you as you continue in your efforts to disciple and lead. Blessings and Peace!
