Dear Friend,
In 2010 we began the transition from the NH Children'sTrust Fund, a public-private partnership, to the NH Children's Trust, Inc., an independent 501(c)3 voluntary corporation. I would like to invite you to view the final report of the NH Children's Trust Fund by clicking here.
Thanks to your support, we have been able to bring prevention services to every corner of our state. We are fortunate to have had many new and ongoing financial supporters; a full list is included at the end of the annual report. Your donation for the prevention of child abuse and neglect is always welcomed!
For 28 years the Trust Fund has been working to improve the lives of children and families. We are please to report that over the last eight years, the Annie E. Casey Foundation has ranked NH as the either the number 1 or 2 state in the nation in which to raise children. Each year the 12,000 newborns who become NH citizens count on us to provide them with safe, stable and nurturing homes and communities. For most of them this has been true.
Over the past year, despite budgetary restraints:
· We have increased our outreach to faith groups, civic organizations, businesses, family support programs and parents in order to inspire more people to get involved in child abuse and neglect prevention. Jim Hmurovich from Prevent Child Abuse America presented to three audiences in May and invited NH to be part of the national agenda to create urgency and make child well-being a priority.
· We served on legislative and statewide committees and task forces to increase knowledge and skills, streamline systems and create policies to build stronger families and communities leading to a reduction in child abuse and neglect. Two examples include the Abusive Head Trauma task force and the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood home visiting task force.
· We worked with DHHS to direct the 1.6 million "state incentive funds" dollars through the Trust Fund adding to your donations, grants and our endowment earnings to leverage additional community based child abuse prevention dollars for NH in 2011. The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act states, "leveraged funds may include any funds that were leveraged from private, State or other non-Federal sources during the Federal Fiscal Year and directed through the CBCAP lead agency." This means your donation dollars go even farther. Without leveraged funds we would only be awarded the minimum amount of $200,000 from CBCAP. That is only $0.70 per NH child to prevent child abuse and neglect.
Despite our efforts, there are still children who are victims of child abuse and neglect. That's why we need your ongoing support. We will be engaging in a thorough strategic planning process in 2011 that will steer us on a course of investing your contributions wisely and having a greater impact on the lives of children and families. The healthy development of NH's children is a building block for NH's community and economic development.
Thank you from all of us at the Children's Trust,
Keryn Bernard-Kriegl
