Billions of dollars are spent on child protection: baby monitors, baby gates, car seats, outlet covers, high chairs, cribs...

Isn't it time we invested in the most important child protection: PARENTS!

Keryn and PeirceDear Friends:

Despite New Hampshire's ranking as the number one state for children, child abuse and neglect continues to be a heartbreaking reality for far too many of our youngest citizens.

In 2009, there were 942 New Hampshire children who were found to be victims of abuse or neglect at the hands of a parent or primary caregiver - and 28% of them were under the age of three.

Never Shake a Baby

During these first three years of life, children are the most vulnerable. And every year in New Hampshire, there are 13,000 new babies born that can reach their potential with safe, stable, nurturing families and communities.

Every year, the Division for Children, Youth and Families fields about 17,000 calls of suspected abuse or neglect.  The vast majority of those families would benefit from services and support before their children become statistics.

New brain research has clearly demonstrated that abuse and neglect can have profound negative effects on brain development and on children's growth and behavior into adulthood.  In addition to physical injury, abuse and neglect cause extremely high, persistent levels of stress that affects the chemistry of a child's brain, making normal emotional and social development less likely.

But we know how child abuse and neglect can be prevented, and we are the only statewide agency dedicated to its elimination.  In 2009, child abuse prevention programs helped 4,365 New Hampshire parents build the skills to keep their kids safe.

What Child Abuse Prevention Looks Like

The New Hampshire Children's Trust Fund is working to eliminate physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and neglect and shaken baby syndrome by promoting healthy relationships between children and the people who care for them. Healthy child development is the basis for community and economic development. Today's children are tomorrow's leaders, parents and workers.

Every child that remains safely with their parents saves the taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars per year.

State data demonstrate that 95% of high risk families that participate in family support programs have managed to raise their child(ren) without the need for child protective services.

Your support will enable us to strengthen families and prevent child abuse. Your donation to the New Hampshire Children's Trust Fund will help to ensure that no child is damaged from an unhappy childhood.

Sincerely,

Peirce                                         Keryn

for both Our Present and Our Future

The New Hampshire Children's Trust Fund was established in 1986 by legislative statute RSA 169-C:39 to support programs in New Hampshire that work to prevent child abuse and neglect. Our focus is primary prevention initiatives that keep children safe and families strong.

The New Hampshire Children's Trust Fund believes that the most effective way to keep our children safe from abuse and neglect is to foster the development of strong families. The New Hampshire Children's Trust Fund advocates for positive change in both state and federal policies that effect children and families.

The New Hampshire Children's Trust Fund is the New Hampshire chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America.
