December 2011

They are all homeless and in the hospital.
Greetings!

Please take a moment to meet Georgia and Tina, two animals seeking care this week at the Sonoma Humane Society.

Georgia is a young hound dog, although you'd never know it by looking at her. She struggles just to lift herself off the ground and her fur is missing in large patches - infections have been nesting in the folds of her skin. Those long, droopy ears are hiding big problems of their own. How could this be - she's just 4-years-old?

At 156 pounds, Georgia is the most over-weight animal we have ever seen at the Sonoma Humane Society. Her improper diet has caused gross obesity and many skin and hygiene problems, because she is unable to properly clean herself. She has a long road ahead of her - she needs treatment for her skin and ear infections, and must lose a whopping 1/3 of her body weight. Her pre-adoption rehabilitation will take at least 4-6 weeks.

Tina's condition was so poor that her owner feared we would not be able to help her, but she was quickly taken to the safety of our veterinary hospital. Her chronically untreated skin allergies have ravaged her coat, leaving sensitive skin exposed and bleeding. Almost half of her body has lost its fur. Tina will make a complete recovery, but it will take 4 weeks of treatment, special diet and medications.

Georgia and Tina are just two of the animals who need medical attention and intervention at the Sonoma Humane Society right now. Joining them are 60 cats with upper respiratory disease and ringworm - both of which are treatable and curable conditions, but require weeks of medical care. Our shelter hospital is overwhelmed in trying to meet the needs of these deserving animals. We hope you can help.

The Sonoma Humane Society is dedicated to providing life-saving veterinary services for homeless animals. As you know, innocent animals arrive here every day - many of whom are sick and injured - and all of them need to be cared for. When we have donations to support our work, we can do our very best.

The Sonoma Humane Society's Angels Fund provides financial support for our shelter hospital. If you can give a gift today, it will be used to provide medical care for those who are ill - these little (and big) guys really need us! Please consider making a donation today, and/or passing this newsletter along to your friends, co-workers and family members. Every donation we receive helps another homeless animal get the care they deserve.

As always - thank you for taking the time to read about our animal friends and for your loyal support. Our community is a more compassionate place because of you!

Sincerely,

Kiska
