Greetings!

So much to celebrate this Spring.  For example, now you'll be able to spend endless hours outdoors.  Who guy mowing the lawncares if you have hyper-growing grass and you're the one who's supposed to be mowing it.

And Moms, we'll be celebrating you this month. Just to think, school will be out soon and you'll be able to spend day after day after day after day with the kids. Okay, Margaritasso come to think of it - we say everyone should stop by the Diamondback this month for a tasty margarita (salt or no salt -- your choice), a delicious dinner and a homemade strawberry tart with fresh custard and red, ripe berries. Sure we're trying to make you hungry.  We're a restaurant after all.

Lots going on this month (and we hope you'll join us for all of it). Yes, we have the Kentucky Derby (May 3rd), Cinco de Mayo (May 5th), Hope du Jour and the Democratic Primary (May 6th), Mother's Day (May 11th), Wake Graduation (May 19th), our May Wine & Tapas Series Event "Wines and Tapas from Spain" (May 29th) and so much more.  It's going to be a fantastic month!

Special thanks to the folks who entered our March Madness Bracket Competition We won't name any names but congratulations to Jimbo G. and basketballhis family who rose to glory in our Bracket Competition.  Jimbo G.'s family came in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th and won the prized $50.00 gift certificate. We thank everyone who participated and we invite you back for next year!

Special thanks also to everyone who came out to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation  We're proud that we were able to donate $800 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation last month and we thank everyone who came out and entered the raffle.  We also want to send out a big thank you to Wake Forest Soccer Coaches Tony da Luz and Carson Porter for being our celebrity waiters for the night and for contributing the awesome raffle prizes. Raffle results:  Laura C. won a soccer ball autographed by players from the 2007 NCAA Championship Wake Forest Men's Soccer Team. And Albert B. won the autographed t-shirt.  For all of us -- especially a bunch of soccer crazed 7 year olds armed with their soccer ball and a Sharpie pen -- it was a night to remember.

Hope to see you this month at the Diamondback!

A True Story about May 5th & the Diamondback Grill
cake
On May 5th, 1989, Murphy's new business had been around for oh, about 30 days.  That night the double front doors of the restaurant suddenly blasted open, yielding to the violent winds and stinging horizontal rain of a tornado. But the show must go on, so the staff finished the night with flashlights and candles.

The following year, on May 5th, staffers were celebrating their first year in business and their survival from the tornado the previous year. That very night, most of Winston-Salem was hit by yet another giant storm complete with funnel clouds, downed trees and power outages.

After that, May 5th had become somewhat of a legendary day at the restaurant.  And it would have remained known as a day of wild winds had Murphy not met a very charming young lady named Kimberly, whom he later married, and whose birthday just happened to be -- well, May 5th.

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. And still do wonders for your community.

Murphy was actually one of the founders of Hope du Jour which supports Crisis Control Ministry.  And on Tuesday, May 6th, the Diamondback -- and many other Winston-Salem restaurants -- will be donating 10% of their profits to help this amazing organization. Put it on your calendar to do a good deed -- by having a spicy Crab Cake and a glass of Chardonnay.  For more info on Hope du Jour and the Crisis Control Ministry, click here.
