PLEASE REMEMBER that this Sunday (November 15), many of the streets in and around downtown will be temporarily closed off because of the Rock 'N' Roll Marathon being run between 7:30am -3:00pm. Therefore, the ONLY guaranteed access to Celebration Circle at JumpStart/Blue Star will be arriving from the south on Alamo Street. That means you will need to enter off the Alamo Street exit off IH35 or via Hwy 90 (Probandt exit). DO NOT USE THE IH37/DURANGO EXIT or TRY TO DRIVE THRU DOWNTOWN. For a detailed map and more info, please check www.competitor.com/community
I'm telling you this because it would be a shame if you missed Sunday's Circle, when I'll be working with Dr. Don Lucas as we focus on "The Wisdom of Happiness." You may remember that Dr. Lucas was our guest speaker in September while I was performing at the Kerrville Music Festival. The following week, we got so much positive feedback about his presentation, that I asked him to return so that I could learn from his experience in the psychology of happiness, too. The topic of Positive Psychology has fascinated me ever since I dropped out of a grad school program oriented toward the disease-state model, when what I was hungry for was a holistic, healthy-state model. That's why I'm also looking forward to attending his afternoon workshop on "Being Happy: A Practical Approach," which will be held from 2-5pm. An intriguing topic with many practical implications, taught by an acknowledged expert with an upbeat style. Works for me! I sure hope you can join us. But, please note that for logistical reasons, the workshop will be held at Jai and Fredy's amazing studio space, located at 120 Guadalupe Street, less than a mile from Jump-Start (NOT at the Circle Office, as previously announced). Also, I'm pleased to report that the Rock 'n Roll Marathon will feature performances by dozens of top-notch, local bands - including the Twist of Fate, fronted by our beloved Circle guitarist, CJ Troilo. He'll be playing with two other members of our usual Circle Band crew: Ray Palmer (keyboard) and Carl Rush (bass). I'm happy for them; it's a fun gig. And though I must admit feeling momentarily bummed when I first heard that all three of these guys would be gone from Circle this Sunday - I quickly realized it was just an opportunity to do things a little differently. So... I've cooked up some special tunes with our super-duper vocalist, Sarah Bading, as well as several guest musicians that are guaranteed to surprise and delight you! So, please take a few minutes to plan your route for Sunday, which will help you avoid traffic hassles and arrive at Jump-Start on time. You won't want to miss any of it! With blessings, | |
