Greetings from the Netherlands! Having missed the last two Sundays in the Circle, I really look forward to being there with you again this week (July 26). But in the meantime, Zet, Mateo and I are still enjoying the last few days of our vacation here in Holland, where we're visiting with my daughter, who is celebrating her 30th birthday, and our grandaughter, who'll soon be turning five. In addition to the joys of seeing my extended Dutch family again, it's been great to let go of the details of daily life in Texas for awhile. To enjoy the deep pleasures of being back in my homeland, seeing old friends, reliving childhood memories and feasting on all those favorite foods unattainable in Texas.
But after we'd been here about a week, I found myself feeling unaccountably empty and dissatisfied. Despite all the fine fun, family and feasting, something was not quite right. Not knowing what else to do, I just gave in to the dull grey cloud floating through my head early one morning, letting it pin me to a chair for a period of prolonged silence. I just sat there. Was it ten minutes or an hour? I truly don' t know. But before too long the cloud had lifted, gifting me with a clear insight into what had been missing: Nothing!
You see, between the strangeness of the time and temperature changes, the social whirl and the swirling emotions involved in being here, I'd gotten so caught up in doing, feeling and absorbing Everything that I had neglected to leave space for No Thing. To allow room for the delicious depth and silence that only a concerted time of stillness can bring. Such a simple thing, and yet it makes such a difference. Of course, I've long known that, but knowing and doing are two very different matters!
Now that I've gone back to taking daily time(s) for surrendering into the Silence and Nothing-ness, I sure am having more fun being here. Those periods of Inner Rest really help keep things in perspective, to take things less personally and enjoy the unique opportunity to be here.
In any case, it's great to be Here. And I truly hope that you are having a wonderful time being There, wherever you are, whatever you're doing, knowing that you, too, are surrounded by Love and Light.
With joy and hopes of seeing you Around the Circle,
