In the spirit of 'being' rather than 'doing', I've taken this week off from writing for this space while Zet, Mateo and I are in Holland visiting family. I'm sharing an excerpt from my book, Hurry Slowly, as a gift to you, and to myself. Enjoy!
This gift isn't really mine to give but I'm doing my best to give it to you anyway, in hopes that you'll take a few minutes out of your busy life to receive it consciously. If you aren't sitting down as you read these words, please take a few moments to do so now. Make yourself as comfortable as possible, ready to accept delivery and unwrap this gift slowly and carefully, like the fragile treasure it is.
The Precious Present is nothing more (but nothing less) than this very moment unfolding all of its riches in your life right now. It's PRECIOUS because it is priceless, irreplaceable and incredibly valuable. It's PRESENT because it's happening at this very moment; it has never before happened in the history of the world, and will never ever occur precisely like this again. Our culture has hypnotized many of us into believing that our minutes, days and years stretch out in a straight line of identical, measurable units which can be scheduled, planned and interchanged at will. The Precious Present proves otherwise.
That's because it asks us to be still for awhile. To drop the illusion of linear life long enough to breathe fully, sit quietly and drink in the miracle of our connection to all of life. It is inviting you now. So just keep breathing, reading with an open and relaxed mind, focusing on the heart of this Precious Present. You know exactly what it is. You've always known. You're just taking a moment to remember two simple facts: 1) you are precious, and 2) you are present. Slowly, gradually, these two facts melt into the one awareness that is the Precious Present.
With blessings,
