This coming Sunday, December 21st, we'll be celebrating Christmas along with the Winter Solstice as well as the first night of Hanukkah. Whew! I'm really excited to be participating in this special day, which presents us with a very timely opportunity to affirm the power of the Divine Spark alive in each of us. A potent reminder that on the shortest day/longest night of the year, the Solstice affirms the presence of Light in the time of Darkness, while the Hanukkah story reminds us that even just a little bit of fuel and a small light can be enough to help us carry on under difficult conditions. And the Nativity story tells us that even the most humble of circumstances can give birth to miracles. We'll weave these strands together in a rich tapestry, filled with affirmations of the Divine Light shining in all of us. This Sunday Circle service is certain to be one of the most high-energy events of the year, and I really hope you will be there. And then... things will get REALLY interesting that evening, when we take our Holiday Celebration down into the Cave Without A Name near Boerne for our semi-annual concert of Underground Sounds. Of the hundreds of venues I've performed over the years, none can compare with the acoustic resonance and visual majesty of the Queen's Throne Room. What a gift to be able to share a rich feast of original songs, seasonal music and meditations in that magnificent space! Blend the extraordinary ancient/modern tones of Paul Lewis (didgeridoo), Sarah Bading (vocals), Bill Colangelo (bass clarinet), Thomas Ensley (bass) and Carl Rush (percussion) - add in the rich voice of the cavern itself, the spectacular rock formations and the collective consciousness of 100+ people gathered to affirm the Light while sitting in the heart of darkness deep inside the earth, and you have one extremely powerful gathering. Whether or not you're physically present at either (or both!) of these gatherings, I invite you to join us in consciousness this Sunday. To light your own candle. To write in your journal, say a prayer or spend some time meditating on the Sacred Flame burning in you, as you, through you. Let us affirm alone, and together: "This little Light of mine, I'm gonna let it Shine!" Wishing you a blessed, Light-filled Holiday Season,
