"There is only one thing that blocks the reality of peace from your life and from the world - the idea that you are separate and alone. The fear that comes from this belief can only be dissolved by being present to the moment and to whoever is standing in front of you. Love is the way - the only way, and it is what your soul longs to give."

Several of my friends seem convinced that their world will end if Obama loses on November 4th. Some even talk about moving overseas should that happen, in order to escape the shameful shadow they believe would be cast over America's soul. On the other side of the fence, many conservative voices are filling the airwaves with dire predictions of the dreadful consequences should McCain lose to the vast wave of socialism threatening to sweep away all that is good and holy about traditional, American values. Personally, I'm not sure that it matters all that much. Please don't misunderstand. I've already voted, and it's probably not hard to guess which way I went. But as far as I can tell, regardless of who wins, the sun will still rise on November 5th; the trees will still be shedding leaves while the wildflower seeds continue setting down roots in preparation for their brief moment of glory in the spring. Or as Sy Safransky described it so well in this month's issue of The Sun, "No matter who's elected president ... men and women will fall in love and, sadly, out of love. Inconsolable grief will still be inconsolable. A broken heart will nonetheless keep beating one hundred thousand times a day. Writers will write. Painters will paint. Three in the morning will still be three in the morning. The door in our psyche we don't want to walk through will still be just down the hall. No matter who's elected president, life will hand us the invisible thread that connects us all; love will hand us the needle." Of course I have political preferences. And of course, this election will have political, financial and social consequences for years to come. That's why I donated, voted and volunteered the way I did, and have encouraged others to do the same. But that doesn't mean I will give my power over to the results of the election. Or let the affairs of State affect my inner state of affairs. Instead, I choose to stay focused on the "invisible thread" that Safransky invoked. To join with countless others - and hopefully, you - in using "love's needle" to continue weaving this magnificent, mysterious, and ever-evolving tapestry of consciousness. Reinforcing the depth of our connection on Election Day and every day. One hug, one handshake, one smile, one tear, one prayer, one thought at a time. Because I'm convinced that's where the real change happens. Empires may rise and fall; emperors (and presidents) will certainly come and go; only Love remains. And consciousness evolves.
You and I have the opportunity to be conscious about choosing the direction(s) in which our consciousness grows. Will we choose love or fear? Separation or connection? Winning or cooperating? Personally, I vote for Oneness.
With blessings,
