Thanksgiving Day Wine Suggestions

We at the Wineshop at Foxcroft hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. So many times such work and effort is put into the Thanksgiving day feast and such little thought is left for choosing the right wine. It only comes once a year and it's over before you know it so don't waste it with mass marketed chain store swill. We've chosen a group of wines that will fit every budget for the occasion. We hope you will consider them and us when preparing for the bid day. It's only a week away...
Santome Prosecco Extra Dry NV
$12.99 bottle

And who doesn't love a good sparkling wine at Thanksgiving? We've got a couple but this one is a real no-brainer. At this price point We though this little sparkler would be a perfect wine for the Thanksgiving holiday. It is an Extra-Dry Prosecco so it's got just a touch more residual sugar than Brut but I don't think most people would notice the difference because it's so incredibly refreshing...
Tenuta Belguardo Rosé IGT Toscana IGT 2008
$21.99 bottle
We discovered this rosé last month in Italy when we stopped for lunch at the Osteria di Fonterutoli. Everyone was drinking it and to was so tasting I made sure to bring some in when I got back. Produced in the Maremma it's a combination of Sangiovese and Syrah picked by hand in just the right purportions. The wine is beautiful light cherry red in the glass and has aromas of rose petals on the nose. In the mouth, there is a poised balance of acidity, alcohol and body. Can't you just taste it?
Dönnhoff Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl Riesling Kabinett 2008 $26.99 bottle
If the powerful, racy and amply fruited wines of the Nahe are considered among the best not only in Germany, but throughout the world, it is largely because of Helmut Dönnhoff's efforts. One taste of his finely crafted Rieslings and it is apparent that something very special is before you.The wine is a study in balance, perfection and complexity with flavors of rounded peach fruits, lime, and grapefruit zest. Honestly how often to you get to taste one of the world's best wines for such a reasonable price? Well you can right now for a limited time.
Leese-Fitch Cabernet 2007
$9.99 bottle

A side project of the Sebastiani sons, this wine has true California character for a wine so inexpensive. Deep ruby in color, the nose has notes of black cherry, root beer syrup, and cedar. The 2007 vintage of Leese-Fitch Cabernet has flavors of rich berry cobbler, cappuccino, chocolate covered mints, currants & fig cake. It finishes with toasted marshmallows and dried blueberries. A great cabernet that over-delivers.
Chartogne-Taillet Cuvee Sainte Anne Brut Non-Vintage $43.99 bottle
Good Champagne is never cheap but the place where price meets quality it what we're always looking for. The Cuvee Sainte Anne has both in spades. The blend is 50% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, and 10% Meunier. This is a champagne for people who think they don't like champagne. Overtly fruity and joyous, round and accessible but with real depth and character to the nose. This is a full-bodied and assertive Champagne that will please those lovers of the "Yellow Label" easily. This holiday season if you're going to drink one Champagne (and you should) choose Chartogne-Taillet's Cuvee Sainte Anne for your table.
Annabella Carneros Pinot Noir 2007 $19.99 bottle
The Michael Pozzan winery is almost never seen reviewed in the big wine publications, but they quietly produce wines from Napa and Sonoma that over-deliver on quality for the price. Annabella is their label for wines made from selected vineyards from Napa and Sonoma that they purchase. Annabella wines are friendly, approachable and ready to savor. Their 2007 Pinot Noir is made from grapes grown in the Carneros region at the northern end of San Francisco bay, where the cool ocean breezes make ideal conditions for growing great Pinot Noir. A full flavored wine with medium body and a rich concentration of fruit. It has aromas of black cherry and plum that follow through on the finish. Aging in French oak helped to create a complex and refined wine.
Chateau de la Saontagny 2007
$25.99 bottle
Alain Roy owns a famous estate, a property regularly cited as a standard-bearer for the village of Montagny, one of the premium wine-growing areas in southern Burgundy's Cote Chalonnaise. His vineyard cite has generally been acknowledged as the best growing site for Chardonnay in Montagny for over 350 years. His wines are steely and precise with a cool minerality normally found in Burgundies much more costly. Fresh, elegant balanced flavors and crisp acidity. Everything a Chardonnay should be.
Patricia Green Old Vines Estate Pinot Noir 2008
$38.99 bottle

What would Thanksgiving be like at my house without opening a bottle of Patty Green? A sadder place for sure. Every year we get our allocation of her wines and I always plan on squirreling away a few bottles and like clockwork it's all gone before I get the chance. Patricia Green makes elegant approachable textbook Willamette Valley Pinot at more that reasonable prices when compared to here peers. No fancy press or tasting room, just great wine. Her wines emphasize the red fruit character of Pinot and the acidity is always balanced. Beautiful with the bird. Only a few hundred cases of this wine were made and we grabbed three. The 2008 is a real approachable vintage like 2006 so this wine should dazzle...
