Eat to Live

September 20, 2010
Hello everyone,
Some really exciting news, I recently started to work with a running back in the NFL.  I have been working with him on diet and nutrition over the past month and loving every minute of it.   Hoping to take a trip and meet more players, I will keep everyone posted.

Anyone interested in a fun race, we did the warrior dash in NY this weekend.  All I have to say is WOWWW.  Never has the thought of defeat crossed my mind within the first 10min of a race.  Yes we finished...soaking wet, full of mud and bloody from barbed wire (barbed wire wounds optional).  Already planning on doing the next one, by far my favorite race.   www.warriordash.com

Also big-up to all of you who did the 6 week push-up program with me.  I had amazing feedback, and also many requests to run it again so I will start round 2 in October.  All info will be posted weekly on my facebook page, yes Eat To Live has a facebook page and wants you there!  In addition to the push-up program, I post daily nutrition and health updates along with recipes of all sorts.  Give 'er a try.

Thanks again and see you soon.

Live Well

Nutrition
Eating healthy at an airport does not have to be a disaster.

Do some research- take a look at what your restaurant options will be and look up the nutrition info ahead of time.  Give yourself some options so that you don't scramble last minute and end up with a 1,000 calorie breakfast.

Skip the unnecessary extras- you can easily skim off calories by watching what is added to your food (like cheese or mayo on a sandwich), and what is on the side (french fries, chips or cookies).  Dressings can add a few hundred calories to salads if you aren't careful.  Some quick reading can save your butt, literally.

Eat often.  Waiting until you are starved can direct you towards unhealthy choices, and foods that you would not normally eat.  Pack some snacks to help avoid a hunger frenzy.  I always travel with protein bars, fruits and veggies to keep me on my normal routine.

Get protein when you can.  Avoid the purely carbohydrate based choices like bagel & cream cheese, pizza, pasta, muffins and smoothies.

Drink plenty of water.  Being dehydrated may give you false cravings for salt or sugar.  A bottle of water may save you from that cookie with 12 teaspoons of sugar.

Sleep.  Getting adequate rest helps to make smarter choices.  Sleep deprivation can steer you toward more processed carbs and sugar.

Get a game plan.  Have an idea of about what time you will be eating so that when boredom strikes you don't just jump in line and order aimlessly.  Don't just try to wing it, this can lead to many more snacks than if you were in your normal daily routine.

Natural Health
Essential oils are very popular for awakening the senses.  Bergamot is useful for many ailments, including but not limited to anxiety, depression and eczema.  It can be added to massage oils and rubbed on the abdomen for indigestion.

Bergamot is also antibacterial.  I use Lynn's Bergamot antibacterial spritzer to clean my scales and office.  Squeaky clean & so yummy smelling.  I would love to take all the credit, but I have you breathing in Bergamot for 30 min, no wonder you leave feeling so calm and happy.

I do have some spritzers in stock, but will be picking up more this weekend.  Please contact me if interested.  Visit Lynn's website for more specifics, and to order herbs & products.
Exercise
Yoga is a wonderful exercise, highly recommended for increased fitness and flexibility, stress reduction and weight loss .  Recently a study from Boston University School of Medicine showed that yoga may be a more effective treatment for mild depression than aerobic exercise.
Yoga is shown to increase levels of GABA (a neurotransmitter)  in the brain.  Low levels of GABA are shown in cases of depression and anxiety.

www.yogabasics.com has descriptions of the different types of yoga.  If words like Jnana or Hatha yoga are new to you, read up on the yoga 101 to become a little more familiar.
