Hello my friends,
Good seeing some of you today at the NUWC health fair, thanks for stopping by our booth!

Some really great news...Herbalist Lynn Murdock may be headed to RI this weekend to do a wild weed walk on the cliff walk in Newport.   If you are interested please contact me asap, I know this is short notice but this class is pre-pay and if we can get enough people she will be doing the walk.   If you have any interest in herbs,  health, plants, organics, nature, fitness, etc then this is for you.  Lynn will be pointing out all the weeds, plants & flowers that we normally just breeze right by.  You will learn what they are, how to eat them and why they're good for you!   Great opportunity if you were not able to make it to her edible flowers or medicinal & culinary workshops.  Since she will be coming right from the farm, if interested in some fresh veggies or herbs let us know.

Also a reminder that Eat To Live has a Facebook page, frequently updated with recipes and nutrition info.   Anything in particular you would like to see up there just ask.

Purslane....say what?  Come to the wild plant & herb walk this weekend, maybe we can see this little bugger up close & personal.   Instead of trying to rid your yard of this nutrient packed weed imposter, eat it.

Purslane is actually a vegetable with high omega-3 content.  About 1 cup has 300-400mg ALA (found in flax oil)  and lesser amounts of DHA & EPA (found in fish oil).

Omega fats are not only anti-inflammatory, but put up a good fight against diabetes, high blood pressure and depression.

Hard to prepare?  Nope...pick, wash, place in salad.

Back by popular demand....some of you asked for me to put up the workshop info.  Here ya go!

If  you're into herbs, organics, wild plants, edible flowers, etc - I have some great news for you.  Lynn has some of the most unique, informative and interesting workshops planned at her farm.  I know I sound biased because she's my mom, ok you're right I am, but seriously you'll learn more in her class than you would in a year on your own.
Some of these classes may not repeat so don't procrastinate...take a mini day trip to CT and check out my roots.

Next up are:
August 14th Basic Organic Gardening
August 28th Green Drinks, Tonics & Herb Teas

Lynn says "With the economy the way it is and the changes coming our way as we head towards 2012, we need to become more self sufficient by learning how to grow & harvest wild foods which are free, rich in vitamins & minerals & available locally. This seems like the simplest way to nourish our bodies. I see this as preventative medicine which has become my way of life. I therefore offer these workshops to you so that you may become empowered".

Private tours are also available by request.  Missed the edible flowers class but still want the info?  Gather some friends and schedule your very own workshop!

Exercise
Physical activity does not always have to consists of reps and sets.  Strength training is a very effective way to develop muscle mass and keep metabolism running like a champ, however variety is key in any routine.

Belly dancing engages all of the muscle groups and helps to tone muscles and decrease body fat.  Belly dance is also great for improving posture and flexibility when done on a regular basis, and is wonderful for stress reduction.

Barbara Donahue was my belly dance instructor when I first learned of this beautiful dance in her Tiverton studio.  I am thrilled to have her teaching now at our facility on Monday nights from 7:30-9:00pm.   We would love to have you & your friends drop in!
