Hello my friends,
I would like to congratulate Karen Colburn-Boyce, 1st place winner of the WASP contest. Nice work Karen, I saw many sweaty days filled with pull ups, determination, and smiles. You earned ever bit of that $500.
I think a fab idea would be to have herbalist Lynn Murdock come to RI and give a class or maybe wild herb tour on the cliff walk. Anyone interested please contact me. I think with enough raised hands we can get mother earth over here!
This past month something really special happened. Someone un-named donated a more than generous amount of money as a random act of kindness. With that check I have been able to get one of my clients 11 weeks of personal training to help him succeed with his weight loss. This client is very special to me and I want more than anything to see him make changes he never thought were possible. Without this donation, I know he could not have afforded this. My client, 19 years old, started at 335# and is beginning training at 300#. I will keep everyone up to speed on how we're doing!
I can not express my gratitude enough. Good Karma my friend, good karma.
Melissa

Coconut water, what the heck is it?
Coconut water is the liquid from the center of young green coconuts. Coconut milk on the other hand is from mature coconuts. Because of the electrolyte content it has become a hit post-workout drink. Coconut water is low in carbohydrates, specifically naturally occurring sugars, and has no fat or cholesterol. The lack of food coloring also adds to the appeal.
1 cup has approximately 46 calories, 9g carbs, 3g fiber, 6g sugar, 252mg sodium, 600mg potassium, 58mg calcium, 60mg magnesium.

If you're into herbs, organics, wild plants, edible flowers, etc - I have some great news for you. Lynn has some of the most unique, informative and interesting workshops planned at her farm. I know I sound biased because she's my mom, ok you're right I am, but seriously you'll learn more in her class than you would in a year on your own.
Some of these classes may not repeat so don't procrastinate...take a mini day trip to CT and check out my roots.
Lynn says "With the economy the way it is and the changes coming our way as we head towards 2012, we need to become more self sufficient by learning how to grow & harvest wild foods which are free, rich in vitamins & minerals & available locally. This seems like the simplest way to nourish our bodies. I see this as preventative medicine which has become my way of life. I therefore offer these workshops to you so that you may become empowered".

Exercise Always a good idea to add exercises into your workout to avoid a stale routine. Bosu balls can help you change things up a bit. Below is an "around the world burpee" from Shape.com. This is a great exercise to engage triceps, back, core, legs, chest and glutes. More exercises can be found at www.shape.com/workouts
Stand with feet hip-width apart and hold a Bosu in front of you, flat side facing you. Squat and place Bosu on the ground in front of feet.
Jump feet back into plank position, then tilt the Bosu forward, to the right, toward you, and to the left. Return to center, jump feet forward, and stand up, raising Bosu overhead. Return to starting position; repeat.
