I have a few exciting things I would like to share.  First, Lynn's website is up and running.  This site is amazing...just like all her herbs and products.  I feel healthier just browsing through it, can you imagine how we feel after leaving her house?!   Make sure you check it out, we would love feedback to help us make it even better.  www.LynnsOrganics.net  All Lynn's products are available for order directly through her site.

In the works...I have met with a chef from 22 Bowens Restaurant in Newport to develop a customized meal delivery plan.  Many clients have mentioned that a healthier diet would seem undemanding if "their meal" could just be prepared and delivered to them.  The ability to avoid the "planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning" portion could help ease things up.  Preparation is the groundwork for success, and is unfortunately the most common obstacle. Having a backup plan to sometimes avoid this may be what some of us need.  That being said, I am working on making it possible for those interested.  Please let me know your thoughts.

The WASP (Weight loss Assisted Support Program)  has started and will conclude on April 30th.  Off to a great start, I will keep you posted on how it's going.

We have also started Zumba and Yoga classes every wednesday 7-7:45pm - Zumba, 8-8:45 - Yoga.  $10 per class or $15 for both.

Chocolate for Heart Health

Chocolate is by far my favorite food.   My family says it's because I was born on Easter, but I'd like to think I was smart from day one and simply knew it was good for me.   An article in the British Medical Journal shares research done on a "Polymeal", aka... a meal that if eaten daily would significantly reduce risk of cardiovascular disease.  The meal they came up with would reduce cardiovascular disease by 75%!!!!  The meal? ...Wine, fish, nuts, garlic, fruits, vegetables, and chocolate

Cocoa is loaded with flavonoids, much like tea, wine, cruciferous vegetables & berries.  Cocoa has a particular flavonoid called flavanol, which helps reduce risk of clogged arteries, and thus decreased risk of heart attack and stroke.  Same reason for taking a baby aspirin, but tastes so much better.   Some research has shown also that as little as 30 calories per day worth of dark chocolate was able to lower blood pressure.

Make sure to buy dark chocolate, 60 percent cocoa or higher.   The higher the better!  You can read more about the benefits of chocolate in Dr. Johnny Bowden's The 150 Healthiest Foods On Earth

Tea For Your Heart

We know that black and green tea contribute so much to our health.  They are loaded with polyphenols (antioxidants), have anticancer benefits, help lower cholesterol,  decreases risk of stroke & heart attack, and are showing hope in the fight against alzheimers.  Green tea is also great for improving mood and metabolism.

What we often forget is that there are many herb teas also with amazing health benefits.

Hawthorn is good for the heart and useful for lowering cholesterol and blood pressure.
Horsetail is known for its benefit to hair, skin and nails, and use as a diuretic.
Peppermint is great for digestion, circulation and irritable bowel syndrome.
Feverfew is used for migraines and for its anti inflammatory properties.
Oatstraw for heart health, insomnia and indigestion
I would also like to mention my favorite Kava tea,  I have a friend that could use a smile right now so I thought I'd throw in a happy herb...this is great for stress and insomnia.

This is just a taste of what's available.   More herbs can be researched through www.ccnh.edu - Clayton College of Natural Health's Holistic Herb Guide.

Lynn has quite a variety of her organic herbs available through her new website www.LynnsOrganics.net   Her full list of single dried herbs, herbal tinctures, kitchen cosmetics, tea blends, salves, and herb infused oils are now available.
Exercise
6-pack in your near future?

There are so many abdominal exercises, gadgets, and gimmicks all proving to be "The Best" abdominal workout to get you those washboard abs.  How effective is your actual abdominal workout, could you be seeing better results just by switching exercises?

San Diego State University researchers tested and ranked abdominal exercises and equipment.  Each was measured by eletromy-graphy to determine which produced the most muscle activity.   The ab rocker placed dead last at #13, with suprisingly the traditional ab crunch only #11.   Other equipment like the ab roller and  torso track also did not do as well as the #1... ab crunches on an exercise ball.   Other top placers were captains chair, bicycle maneuver and reverse crunch.

If you're investing much of your time into the ab roller, maybe time to change things up.  The exercise library at www.acefitness.org can show you the proper way to do abdominal exercises.

My advice is no matter which exercises, switch it up to prevent adaptation.  Evaluate your workout and how you feel after doing abs...if you could do the same workout again the next day then probably time to step it up a notch.  And finally, ask a trainer...they can show you how minor adjustments in an exercise can work muscles in a whole new way!
