Comcast Cares Day 2012
When most of us think Comcast we probably also immediately think cable. Luckily for the Women's Resource Center the name has also come to represent so much more.
For years Comcast has provided free Internet access to the Safehouse. Their contribution has been invaluable to safehouse guests for making connections with potential employers. Their support of the Center hasn't stopped there. Comcast has also helped us make the Safehouse feel a bit more like home during their annual Comcast Cares day.
On April 21, 2012, more than 20 Comcast Cares volunteers came out to the Safehouse to give guest rooms a makeover. The project, spearheaded by Lisa Walker, Customer Care manager for the Atlanta region required a great deal of coordination and planning. This is the second project she coordinated with the Center for Comcast Cares Day. We are grateful for all of the effort that went into purchasing and soliciting supplies, choosing and buying paint colors, comforters and other decorative items.

The volunteers worked as if they were transforming rooms in their own homes. The families were so moved. One of the rooms the volunteers redecorated belonged to Angel, a mom with three young daughters. She was especially excited by the cozy comforters and the room painted in a soft yellow, her favorite color. "This is so beautiful to come home to after a long day on my feet. It was so nice of them to do this for me. It really feels like people do care, Angel said." The volunteers gave their time and energy on this special Saturday to paint, clean, shop, organize and decorate. In fact, they enjoyed it so much they plan to return in the next few months to take on additional rooms. We can't wait. Thanks, Comcast! |
