Popular Mechanics

Ivey Mechanical LogoWomen's Resource Center owes a big thanks to Ivey Mechanical Company for the work they have done at our safehouse.  Last month, Joel Lehrer from their Stone Mountain location contacted us because he and his colleagues wanted to do something for their local community.  Since then, their technicians have visited several times, providing free repairs such as replacing the compressor in our ten ton air conditioning unit.  Because of their work, we have saved thousands in maintenance costs at our safehouse. We hope you'll show your thanks by contacting Ivey for your mechanical needs.

The Art of Ending Violence

Styrofoam HeadWRC has been lucky to partner with a host of artists, nonprofits, and galleries this summer to give our community additional ways to see how violence against women impacts our world.  First, WRC was invited to be the first Georgia site for Diaries of the Voiceless, an art therapy program specifically created for survivors of domestic violence.  Pieces created by residents of our domestic violence safehouse will be incorporated into a traveling exhibit and will also be displayed at the Arts for All Gallery in downtown Atlanta. The local exhibit runs July 12th through August 19th and admission is free. On August 4th, WRC staff and resident artists will be present at the gallery for an artswalk and reception from 5 to 8pm.

No by Maimuna GalganoAlso, as we mentioned last month, the Global Health Odyssey Museum at the CDC is running an exhibit called Off the Beaten Path.  WRC has been invited to incorporate our stories into the exhibit by offering a special presentation of Snapshots, the original play written by Patricia Henritze that is based on our work.  Actors performing monologues from the play will be stationed throughout the exhibit on August 25th during a special reception from 4 - 6pm.  Visit our Facebook page for more information on both exhibits.
