The Valentine's Edition

February is all about St. Valentine and WRC tries to make V-Day a fun event for the entire family.  At the safehouse, we celebrated with a family fun night, during which the kids make heart-shaped cookies, cupcakes and cards and each woman received a special gift of flowers and chocolates from generous donors.  The event is a reminder that you don't have to be in a romance to be loved.

Love Yourself

The truth is, many strong, confident women find themselves in abusive relationships. That said, it is easy to lose your sense of self and to forget why you are great after years of being with a partner who says otherwise.

Positive self-talk can be a great motivator, whether your goal is to ace your job interview, recover from a bad experience, or take a huge life step like ending an abusive relationship.  Try saying the following things to yourself in the mirror every morning:

  • I am a valuable person
  • I forgive myself for past mistakes
  • I am proud of all I have accomplished
  • I can share my best self with others

If you're a DV survivor who could use additional support, call us at (404) 688-9436 for more information about our weekly groups.

Be Social

In the movement to end domestic violence, we talk a lot about about abusive relationships, but we don't often discuss what healthy relationships look like.  Therefore, in honor of Valentine's Day, we asked our Facebook fans and Twitter followers to describe what they love about their non-abusive partner.  Head on over to join to discussion!
