Anniversary Celebrations

Happy 25th Anniversary Clip ArtBelieve it or not, 2011 kicks off WRC's 25th Anniversary!  We have come a long way from our first days in 1986, when our only services were support groups and a hotline run from a DeKalb County office.  Now we serve over 13,000 women and children every year at all stages of the journey toward safety.  You'll see us taking full advantage of the number 25 throughout the year, in promotions, press releases, and fundraising, and we hope you will play along.  Help us make number 25 our agency's best year yet.

Holiday Thanks

Woman applying eye makeup to seated womanWe are so grateful for the many groups who donated their time and talents, as well as their treasure, to our agency this holiday season.  For example, the stylists and makeup artists at Shine, Inc. have held a holiday makeover day at our safehouse every year since 2008.  All of the adult residents, and even some of the children, receive full pampering services, including hair cuts and/or style and makeup if desired, free of charge.

In addition to the participants in our Trade the Malls for Walls campaign mentioned in our December newsletter, we would also like to thank the following groups and individuals who made special gifts to us this December:  Katherine Gauntt, HCA Healthcare, The Ray of Sunshine Foundation, Gladys Cooke, Clarkston First Baptist Church, and Ray of Hope Christian Church.

A Word About Donations

Folded towels in a wicker basketBecause our friends in the community were so generous this holiday season, WRC does not have the storage space to accept any more donations of used clothing or canned food at this time.  However, we invite you to view the wishlist on our website for items that we still need.  Some of those items include new underwear for women and children, pillows, blankets, new towel sets, paper products, batteries and flash drives.  Please call (404) 370-7670 to schedule your drop-off.
