Purple RibbonWelcome to another Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  As you've probably figured out, October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  What you may not know is that more women experience domestic violence in their lifetime than are diagnosed with breast cancer.  Both causes are very important to women, and we hope this year you can mix a little purple in with your pink by choosing one of many ways you can become involved with our cause.  You can also call 404-370-7670 to schedule an educational session for your classroom, faith group, or organization.
Do Your Share
Georgia Shares LogoGeorgia Shares is an employee giving program with a focus on social justice, of which WRC is a part.  Visit the Georgia Shares website to see if yours is a participating workplace.  If so, consider making a payroll contribution to WRC. Just $10 per paycheck can pay the first month of rent for a woman moving from our safehouse into a new, safe home of her own.  If your employer is not yet participating in Georgia Shares, follow the instructions for starting a giving campaign.  Our CFC number is 42267.
Light Your Candle
Join us on Thursday, October 21 at 7pm for WRC's 19th annual candlelight vigil. At the vigil, we will confront several widely held beliefs about domestic violence while remembering those lost, celebrating those who have survived, and renewing our dedication to ending violence against women.  The program will include stories, musical performance, and community participation, as well as the incredibly moving candlelighting ceremony.  For more information, visit "events" on our website or view the event on Facebook.
Grow a Beard
Beards BeCAUSE LogoBeards BeCAUSE, a grassroots organization dedicated to follicly fighting domestic violence, has chosen WRC as their Atlanta beneficiary.  Beards BeCAUSE helps raise much-needed funds for local DV organizations around the country through healthy competition. Register to be a grower and lend your voice (and your face) to domestic violence by having friends and family sponsor you to grow a beard.  Can't (or won't) grow a beard?  That's ok, there are still ways for you to participate.
