Caucasian child washes hands under running waterWhen a new person wants to volunteer with WRC, we try to put their skills and talents to good use.  That's why, when Laura Colbert from the CDC asked what she could do to help with the kids at our safehouse, we invited her to channel her public health background into a wellness program.

Once a week, kids enrolled in our children's program learn and play games about topics such as vitamins and nutrients, exercise, washing hands and how soap works, the immune system, and injury prevention.  On the last week, the kids will work on their own personal wellness plan to take with them when they leave the house.

If you have a special talent, skill, or hobby you'd like to share with the families we serve, call our volunteer coordinator Kim at (404) 370-7670 or email [email protected]

2009 vigil attendeesMark your calendars for Thursday, October 21 at 7pm for WRC's 19th annual candlelight vigil.  October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

At this year's vigil we will confront many widely held beliefs about domestic violence while remembering those lost, celebrating those who have survived, and renewing our dedication to ending violence against women.  The program will include speakers, musical performance, and community participation, as well as the incredibly moving candlelighting ceremony.  The vigil will be held at the gazebo behind the Decatur MARTA station.

If you would like to schedule a program, speaker, or training to commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, please call us at (404) 370-7670.
