Great Wall of Kindness
For the past two years Women's Resource Center has issued a challenge: Let's trade the malls for walls and turn our holiday giving campaign into gifts that make a long-lasting impact on families. And for two years you have responded in a way that we never could have expected.
This year, the families participating in our programs received over $4,000 in direct financial assistance through gift cards to Kroger and Publix, Target and Walmart, MARTA, pharmacies, and more. They also received coats, clothes, dishes, cookware, bedding, towels, space heaters, furniture, food, and other needed items. We distributed six trees with the trimmings, and every child received a few gifts of his or her own.
Our goal was to help women and their children begin the New Year with a savings reserve to help bridge the budget gaps that so often threaten their stability. Your support made this happen in an amazing way for even more families than we had hoped.
Special thanks go to some very generous sponsors: Tiffany Worboy and Emory University (many departments!), the emergency room staff at DeKalb Medical, the Customer Care Department at American Express Travel, Damita Moore at AT&T, Central DeKalb Probation, Lockheed Credit Union, and the women who work at Oasis. |
