Epidemic Proportions
In the past month, our blog has covered a barrage of domestic violence murders and murder-suicides in our state:
These tragedies are simply the ones we saw; there are surely others we missed and others for which there was no media report. Anyone who doubts that domestic violence is still a problem must simply read these reports to see how wrong they are.

Building Bridges
A year after Women's Resource Center created our emergency food bank, the need is no less urgent.
WRC exists to help families bridge the gap between abuse and safety. For some women, safety comes when her partner can no longer contact her. For some, safety is a new home for her children. For others, safety comes with distance, physical or emotional. The bridge can be a Protective Order, help with a rental deposit, a bus ticket, or a group of women who listen.
For many women, food becomes an essential plank on that bridge. If she can't find a job, her hours are cut back, the food stamps ran out or haven't started yet, how can she feel safe with her children hungry? WRC provides an average of 25 families per month with direct food assistance, and we rely on donations to keep the shelves stocked. We could use your help.
Essential items include rice and beans, pasta and sauce, peanut butter, canned meats, canned vegetables and fruit, cereal and oatmeal, macaroni, spaghetti-o's and soups. Keep us in mind when you see great sales. When Publix includes a non-perishable as their penny coupon, grab it. When Kroger runs 10 for 10, help us out. It sounds cheesy, but remember, buy one, get one free, one for me, one for WRC.
Don't forget the can openers and tote bags, too!
