         Greetings!

Our mission is to create a society where domestic
violence no longer exists. We strive to meet the
needs of battered women and their children while
working toward changing the systems that uphold
violence. WRC's foundation lies in the empowerment
of all women.

If you listen to V103, you may have heard a lot from
WRC in the days following the tragic shooting of a
woman by a former partner at the CNN Center.
WRC's Executive Director Jean Douglas and
Transition Advocate Vickie Heller, as well as Board
Member Nea Simone, made mutiple radio
appearances answering questions and calling the
community to action. With another fatality in DeKalb
due to domestic violence just a week later, it is clearer
than ever that our community must commit itself to
ending intimate partner violence. Don't tolerate
abusive language or actions in your lives or the lives
of others, and consider becoming involved with WRC
as we work to challenge all systems that support
violence against women.

Until recently, support groups for women in our
safehouse were held in the common area or dining
room, neither of which was ideal for intimate,
emotional conversation. However, thanks to our loyal
supporters and the design stylings of Director of Legal
Services Marilyn Stinson, support group now has a
room of its own. "It's important to have a space away
from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the house,"
says Joelle Hall, Crisis Line Advocate. "Now we have
a place where women know they can be at peace."

Thanks to everyone who made our Champions
for Change luncheon an outstanding event. Over 400
people were in attendance and we raised significant
funds for women and children impacted by domestic
violence. We look forward to making next year's event
even better!
