namaste,
Breathe, stretch, release, and witness - the pulse of the earth.
It's all waking-up, inside and out. Experiencing all that is rising and lifting,
sprouting and blossoming, it can make us feel ecstatic when the sun
finally warms the earth. Like all cycle-loving creatures we might find
our creativity and energy soaring as we move into spring and the moon
makes its' round into the full swing this week. Ahh life! One day calm
and sober, the next day huge waves rolling through. How do we learn to
surf the current? Our yogic tradition is pointing the way: reminding us
again and again to listen inwardly and to connect with our hearts and the
wisdom that comes from awareness. The part of us that has the ability
to find freedom no matter what the circumstances are.
Spring is
the perfect time for cleansing and detoxifying ourselves from the past
and we have a few juicy workshops to share with you this month, please
read on! Join us for an enlightening evening "Lecture on Forgiveness"
with Dhanurdhara Swami, come and chase off any remaining winter blues with
Angela's "Yoga for Anxiety and Depression" workshop, take time out for
a day in nature and retreating with Susie "Hiking the Billy Goat Trail" (bring your kids!), or turn upside down with Stacey's "Handstand and Inversions" workshop. Our
beautiful, peaceful space offers a sweet refuge with our extraordinary
community and your time spent here is guaranteed to open your heart and
lift your spirits!
We hope to see you at the studio this
spring, dear friends. Tend your inner fire, the currents and the
breath, and may we continue to serve you as the flowering of
consciousness continues.

yoga for depression and anxiety
Depression effects 121 million people worldwide and 80% of people who
suffer from depression also suffer from anxiety. Even without on
official diagnoses, many of us suffer from light symptoms of anxiety
depressive feelings. As modern life becomes more challenging, day to
day stresses can take a cumulative toll. Anxiety and depression can
lead to poor sleep, unruly thoughts, feelings of fearfulness, and even
affect work and relationships.
The ancient yogis explained depression as a disconnection from true
self and lack of prana. Their methods have proven effective and yogic
techniques and insightful. While yoga is well known for its potential
calming effects, some of these soothing benefits can be lost amid the
myriad of poses and rapid rhythms of a typical yoga class.
Join Angela in learning specific techniques to address, manage
and ultimately make friends with your anxiety. Tools from Dr Richard
Miller (yoga nidra) and Amy Weintraub (yoga for anxiety and depression)
will be shared in an atmosphere of curious exploration. Learn how yoga
can help manage symptoms of anxiety and depression, while also giving
greater insight of Self and the world around you.
Sat: 4/4 2:00-4:00 pm $35 preregistration; $30 unlimited yoga members

handstands and inversions
Turning upside down gives you (literally) a new perspective. Empowering
and energizing, yoga inversions are some of the most therapeutic
postures; they are very potent but can also be scary.
Learn the safe steps towards these postures in this workshop -
conquering fears, building a strong, safe headstand from the ground up.
We will also look at handstand and other advanced postures as well.
This workshop is for everyone - those who want to do headstand and
those who already can.
Sun: 4/11 1:00-2:45 pm $30 preregistration; $20 unlimited yoga members

forgiveness workshop & psychology of the bhagavad gita
Studio Serenity is delighted and honored to have Dhanudhara Swami returning to the studio, generously offering two enlightening lectures on donations basis, making his superb teachings available to anyone regardless of their economic situation. The first workshop is an inspiring approach towards the principle of forgiveness, whether that be with a relationship in a person's life that needs mending, or extending the power of forgiveness to oneself.
The second workshop explores deep wealth of knowledge about psychology in Indian philosophy,
describing in detail the nature of the mind and how to favorably
transform it. The Bhagavad-Gita in particular summarizes three
classical practices to effect that transformation: karma-yoga (the path
of action), jnana-yoga (the path of knowledge) and bhakti-yoga (the
path of devotion). Dhanurdhara Swami will summarize the nature of yoga
psychology according to the Gita and discuss how to apply its message
of transformation in the course of our daily lives.
Forgiveness Workshop: Fri: 3/17 8:00-9:30 pm $10 suggested donation
Psychology of the Bhagavad Gita: Sat: 3/18 1:00-3:00 pm $10 suggested donation
