Spring Greetings,
This week marks the beginning of spring, which is an ideal time to
come out of hibernation and hit the "reset" button on your body and
shake off any winter sluggishness that is left. The day of the spring equinox brings us a day of complete balance, "equal light and equal
dark". The gateway of the sun crosses directly over the equator,
chasing the last layers of winter darkness in any form or consciousness
and creating more light each day with the emerging pathway along the
horizon. Bring yourself in alignment with the new season, register for
our early morning yoga or meditation classes and start your day
refreshed and ready to take on the challenges of the day ahead.
For those new to yoga and those reluctant yogis who may need a little
extra incentive to get on the mat, we have created some fun and
innovative programs for this spring. Check out our upcoming events
below, including the wonderful offering to chase off any remaining
winter blues with Angela and her workshop "Yoga for Anxiety and
Depression", note our "Full Moon celebration at the Jefferson Memorial"
with Susie, and opportunities to deepen your practice with Stacey's
"Handstand and Inversions" workshop. Enjoy springtime, nature and
yoga with Susie "Hiking the Billy Goat Trail". Mark your calendar for
our "New Years Retreat" in the lovely and lush Hawaii.
During the past month, it was wonderful for me to be stepping back into
teaching in a fuller way. It's been an amazing five years getting
Studio Serenity on its feet and I am deeply grateful to our studio
manager Ryan for his support over the past couple of years. We are so
blessed to have such a beautiful sanctuary. It is truly gratifying to
see everyone's practice deepening and our community growing in leaps
and bounds. On the immediate horizon, I hope many of you can participate in the important effort "Earth Hour" coming up this
Saturday and perhaps some of you may join us for a candle lit Teacher
Audition.
May we awaken through our practice as we balance the masculine and
feminine, light and dark, rest and activity, the yin and yang of life, the ups and downs of economies, and embrace our journey
through this time of evolving consciousness.
I look forward to practicing with you all this month.

"And as we let our own light shine, we
unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are
liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
"All the happiness there is in the world arises from the wish for
others to be happy."

New Faces at Studio Serenity
We are pleased to announce the addition of talented and inspiring yoga teachers joining our faculty. Please welcome with warm oms...
Alex Smith
Alex has been practicing vinyasa flow yoga for four years. She fell in love
with asana in India after only knowing yoga as a long time meditator.
Alex is happy to be in DC after a move from San Francisco, and is
grateful for yoga's ability to keep her grounded and whole in this
bustling, busy city.
She was certified by the Laughing Lotus
yoga school in San Francisco and is eternally grateful to all her teachers and
guides along her path. When off the mat, Alex works as the
Communications Director at Choice USA, a reproductive justice
non-profit.
Colin Brightfield
 Colin Brightfield completed
his 200hr yoga teacher training with Rolf Gates in 2008. Colin
started his yoga journey when he took his first class with his mother
in high school. After playing rugby for four years in college, Colin
returned to yoga to heal his body but was immediately attracted to the
deep philosophical foundations of yoga.
Studying philosophy as an
undergraduate at Villanova University in Philadelphia, the ancient
teachings of yoga are an integral focus in Colin's yoga practice and
inform his life.
Heidi Sohng
Heidi began
her yoga journey when looking for meaning in her life, and in 1997
found herself at Jivamukti in New York City, where she studied with
Sharon Gannon and David Life, and began her teacher training. She
received her yoga teacher certification at Be Yoga with Alan Finger,
and has studied Vinyasa Flow with Shiva Rea and Integrated Movement
Therapy with Molly Kenny.
Heidi understands yoga as a way of connecting
to the light and love within all of us. Since moving to DC from NYC,
she was looking for a "spiritual home" and is happy to be part of the
yoga community at Studio Serenity, whose ideals match hers.
Lillian Siegel
Lillian began yoga at age 16; over the years her practice has steadied,
invigorated, disciplined, and calmed her through times of stress and
jubilation. She has studied from various schools and teachers throughout
her travels in Mexico, India, Tanzania, New Zealand, Israel, and
Chile. She is from Miami Florida and recently graduated from Wesleyan
University where she studied Religion.
She is a certified hatha yoga
instructor through the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara CA.
Lillian enjoys reading, jogging, kayaking, hiking, and growing food.
She appreciates the intimate community and the opportunity that Studio
Serenity provides for its students to self-reflect and challenge
through yoga. She lives in Adams Morgan and works at a women's advocacy
non-profit.
Mary Beth LaRue
Mary Beth LaRue
has studied yoga for five years, and is grateful everyday for the
chance to explore life through yoga. In a fast-paced world, MB works to
guide her students into a practice of stillness, joy, and compassion.
She believes that looking at life through the lens of yoga is a
transformative and awakening experience for the body, mind, and spirit
and wants to share this life changing philosophy with others.
Originally from the Midwest, MB now lives amidst the hustle and bustle
in Washington DC.
