January 2009
We at Studio Serenity are so grateful for the opportunity to be with
and serve you with daily classes and enlightening weekly events, and
especially on those days that most signify and enrich your own personal transformation and love of spirit. I hope that your first week in 2009
was peaceful and filled with love and service.
No wonder that our
ancestors put the birth of a new year when the
season itself represents that - the sun's turning point toward more
light. Though this New Year we may not only have been annoyed by
Seattle-style rainfall and the lack of sunlight, but some of us may
still feel a little jarred from DOW Jones downturn and the general
uncertainty that began in the fall. Personally I am able to find
gratitude for this wake-up call, although painful, it helped reset the
spotlight on what is really important in life.
Perhaps
we can mentally re-frame the situation, instead of declaring a "crisis", we welcome this turning point: saying YES to new era - which also
happens to arrive in time with a new administration. Perhaps we can take
this "pivotal turning point" into a quiet, silent resolution. In our
hearts of hearts, we all know what needs to be done. What the planet
needs from us is not "more" or "up", but whether we can voluntarily say YES to
"less". We know that we need to cut back on the material plane and from the self
perpetuating cycle of waste and surplus that our consumer society
produces.
This could be an inauguration toward an affirming
and life-sustaining paradigm and civilization. One powerful tool for
our practice and not to be forgotten - is an attitude of surrender and
gratitude that expresses our interconnectedness with all life forms and
this planet.
I hope that the practice of yoga, which is to remember our
interconnectedness, will also provide us with the energy and hope that
we need for healing our world. May we continue to serve the flowering
and awakening of consciousness.
May all beings be happy and free.
